Sindh High Court Criticizes Karachi University for Handling of SM Law College Admissions

Karachi, The Sindh High Court (SHC) expressed its displeasure on Wednesday over Karachi University’s approach towards the admission issues of its affiliated colleges, particularly the Sindh Muslim Law College (SM Law College) Karachi.

According to PASBAN Democratic Party, the dissatisfaction stemmed from a petition filed by advocate Khuram Lakhani on behalf of an affected student of SM Law College, following instructions from Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor. The case was heard by a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho.

The principal of SM Law College, referencing a letter from the Pakistan Bar Council, stated that although the college admitted 150 students, Karachi University was only permitting 100 of them to appear for examinations. In response, the lawyer representing Karachi University requested additional time for preparation and disputed the law college’s claim of admitting an extra 50 students.

The SHC, expressing its concern for the future of the students, criticized Karachi University for neglecting its affiliated colleges. The court emphasized the importance of upholding the law and restoring order in accordance with legal provisions.

Advocate Lakhani, representing the PDP, informed the court that the affected students had already paid their admission, enrollment, and examination fees and had been attending classes since 2022. He stressed that while the university and the law college should resolve their differences, the students’ futures should not be compromised.

The SHC has adjourned the hearing until December 6, awaiting further developments in this matter.
