SAHSOL Pays Homage to Late Justice (Retd) Fazal Karim


Lahore, The Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) at Lahore University of Management Sciences recently hosted a commemorative event to honor the late Justice (Retd.) Fazal Karim, a distinguished jurist, scholar, recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz, and a former faculty member at SAHSOL. Justice Karim, who served at SAHSOL from 2007 to 2019, passed away on August 6 this year.



According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the event was attended by Justice Karim’s family, colleagues, former students, lawyers, and retired judges from the broader legal community. Speakers included Mr. Justice Shahid Karim (Judge, Lahore High Court and son of late Justice Karim), Mr. Justice Jawad Hassan (Judge, Lahore High Court), Ms. Shaharbano Raza (Gender and Inclusion Lead, Office of Accessibility and Inclusion, LUMS), and Mr. Faisal Siddiqi (Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan).



The programme began with Professor Hiba Akbar, a former student of Justice Karim and current faculty member at SAHSOL, highlighting his inspirational role at the School. Dr. Parvez Hassan, Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court and Senior Partner at Hassan & Hassan Advocates Lahore, offered opening remarks, acknowledging Justice Karim’s significant influence on students.



Justice Karim’s excellence in the courtroom, classroom, and academia was the focus of the subsequent speakers. Justice Jawad Hassan shared personal anecdotes and instances where he utilized Justice Karim’s work in his judgments. Mr. Siddiqi lauded Justice Karim as a “pioneer of legal scholarship in Pakistan,” while Ms. Raza remembered him as a dedicated instructor who instilled values of discipline and commitment in his students.



Mr. Justice Shahid Karim reminisced about his father’s love for literature, history, research, and admiration for heroic figures. The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Sadaf Aziz, Dean of SAHSOL, who celebrated Justice Karim’s fulfilling years and enduring legacy.
