Karachi, Shehri Awami Mehaz, in collaboration with the youth organization Alternate and support from other entities, led a substantial rally in Karachi on Friday to express solidarity with the Palestinians and urge an end to their persecution by the Israeli occupation army.
According to a news release by Shehri Awami Mehaz, Under the leadership of Comrade Gul Rehman and Aqib Hussain, participants of the rally displayed placards and posters, voicing their objections against Israel and supporting the Palestinian freedom movement.
A resolution was adopted at the rally’s conclusion, emphasizing that the Palestinian fight for national freedom is neither religious nor a conflict between Islam and Judaism. It clarified that the Palestinians have resisted the Zionist state of Israel’s occupation for the past seven decades. The resolution criticized Israel’s alleged persecution of the Palestinians, with the backing of the US and European nations.
Despite facing significant oppression, the Palestinian freedom movement remains robust, gaining global support, including from political forces neighbouring Israel. The resolution further highlighted Israel’s inability to curb the Palestinian resistance, causing unrest among its citizens and pushing them towards right-wing extremism, further deepening the conflict.
Historically, Palestinians ceased armed combat to engage in peace talks, endorsing the 1978 Camp David Accord and the 1993 Oslo Accord with Israel. However, the Palestinian state’s right to establishment wasn’t recognized. The Abraham Accord, supported by several Muslim countries, has seemingly sidestepped the core Palestinian issue, pushing the region towards potential devastation. The resolution argued that peace can only be achieved by recognizing a Palestinian state and allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their homeland. It reiterated that military force could bring destruction but not lasting peace.
Distinguished participants in the rally included Nasie Mansoor, secretary of the National Trade Union Federation; Zehra Khan, general secretary of the Home Based Women Workers Federation; Dr. Asghar Dashti, a renowned intellectual; and representatives from various organizations and parties, such as Shehri Awami Mehaz, SITE Labour Forum, Awami Huqooq, and Alternate, among others.
