Lahore, In a significant gathering on December 12, 2023, Punjab University Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdullah Khan Durrani emphasized the need for awareness to control the population in Pakistan. The session, which included Vice-Chancellors from various universities, was held at the committee room of the Vice Chancellor’s office at Punjab University.
According to University of The Punjab, the session was organized by the Department of Population Welfare, Government of Punjab. Chief Executive Officer of the Punjab Population Innovation Fund (PPIF), Saman Rai, and Vice-Chancellors from multiple institutions including Poonch University Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Women University Sialkot, Lahore College for Women University, and University of Home Economics participated in the event. Heads of various departments of Punjab University were also present.
Prof Dr. Abdullah Khan Durrani addressed the gathering, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges posed by Pakistan’s growing population. Saman Rai discussed the session’s aim of raising awareness among the Vice-Chancellors of various universities about including population-related content in university curricula. She highlighted the crucial role educational institutions play in controlling Pakistan’s population growth.
The session represents a significant step towards integrating population control measures into the educational framework of universities in Pakistan, acknowledging the vital role of academic institutions in addressing national challenges.
