Lahore, The Punjab University Institute of Zoology successfully concluded its 17th National Training Workshop on ‘Organic Beekeeping Practices’ on Tuesday. The event, aimed at promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly beekeeping, drew participants from various academic institutions and sectors.
According to University of Punjab, the closing ceremony was graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Director of the Institute of Zoology Prof Dr. Nabila Roohi, Director ORIC Prof Dr. Shakil Ahmed, In-charge Beekeeper Research Garden Dr. Abdul Majid Khan, along with bee farm administrators, researchers, faculty members, and students. Dr. Mahmood, in his address, emphasized the importance of continuous learning and expressed confidence that the workshop would significantly contribute to practical applications in the field of beekeeping. He reaffirmed Punjab University’s commitment to societal welfare projects, despite limited resources.
Dr. Nabila Roohi expressed gratitude towards the Vice-Chancellor for his support in organizing the workshop and highlighted its role in fostering entrepreneurship. The workshop aimed to provide local farmers, researchers, and women with comprehensive knowledge and skills in various aspects of beekeeping. Dr. Shakil Ahmed expressed hope that the workshop would lead to advancements in beekeeping methods and stressed the necessity of such activities to enhance student skills.
Dr. Majid informed that the 9-day workshop saw participation from 31 individuals, including representatives from Punjab University, University of Sialkot, Agriculture University Faisalabad, and other universities. The event served as a platform for learning and exchanging ideas on organic beekeeping practices.
The workshop concluded with the distribution of cash prizes and certificates of appreciation to students who excelled in various activities organized during the training. This initiative by Punjab University marks a significant step in promoting sustainable agriculture practices and supporting the growth of organic beekeeping in Pakistan.
