Punjab University Celebrates Inter-Faith Harmony with Christmas Cake-Cutting Ceremony

Lahore, at a Christmas cake-cutting ceremony organized by the Punjab University’s Aman Etihad Committee, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdullah Khan Durrani emphasized the significance of inter-faith harmony for Pakistan’s development and prosperity. The event, held at the university’s Faisal Auditorium, was a testament to the institution’s commitment to fostering unity and inclusivity among different religious communities.

According to University of The Punjab, the ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including former Minister Bilal Yasin, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, and various administrative officers, faculty members, and a large number of Christian employees and their families. Prof Dr Abdullah Khan Durrani, in his address, extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community and announced a financial gift of three thousand rupees for each Christian employee at the university. He highlighted the importance of unity in overcoming national crises and affirmed support for minority communities.

Former Minister Bilal Yasin, who also attended the ceremony, congratulated the Christian employees on Christmas and assured them of the implementation of 15% and 44% allowances at Punjab University. He expressed his commitment to resuming public service if given the opportunity. Dr Ahmed Islam elaborated on the university’s efforts towards the development of all employees, including sanitary workers.

Chairman of the Christian Ettihad Aman Committee, Chaudhry Mushtaq Masih, expressed gratitude to the university administration for sharing in the Christmas celebrations and acknowledged the peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among all employees at Punjab University. He reiterated the community’s dedication to maintaining peace in Pakistan. President PU Administrative and Technical Staff Association, Chaudhry Basharat Mehmood, recognized Chaudhry Mushtaq’s contributions to uniting different communities within the university.

The event culminated with the cutting of the Christmas cake, symbolizing a shared spirit of harmony and joy across different faiths within the university community.
