Karachi, During a press conference, Khurrum Sher Zaman, a prominent member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Core Committee and former PTI Parliamentary Leader, voiced serious concerns about the escalating crime rates in Karachi and criticized the government’s lack of effective measures to ensure public safety.
According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, despite PTI’s significant electoral success in Karachi, where the party won 20 National Assembly seats and 35-36 seats in the Sindh Assembly, Khurrum Sher Zaman claimed their mandate was compromised by irregularities in Form 47s. The party has taken this issue to the Election Tribunal, trusting the judiciary to restore their rightful positions.
Zaman highlighted the dire crime situation in Karachi, where theft, robbery, and murder are rampant. In response, PTI has engaged with the Sindh government, filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, and directed PTI MPAs to actively address these issues in the upcoming Sindh Assembly session. Detailed crime statistics reveal a distressing increase in stolen vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and loss of life related to street crimes over the last year.
Furthermore, PTI has called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Qazi Faez Isa, to address the surge of street crimes. They propose empowering the Pakistan Rangers to tackle these issues more effectively, implementing snap-checking in crime-prone areas, and enhancing intelligence capabilities. Additionally, PTI is advocating for the urgent implementation of the Safe City Project, which has been delayed since 2008, and for a revision of the police protocol that currently favors certain individuals over general public safety.
Khurrum Sher Zaman and the PTI remain staunch advocates for the safety and security of Karachi’s residents, urging immediate and decisive governmental action to curb the rising crime wave in the city.
