President Zardari Advocates for Fair Wheat Pricing and Enhanced Agricultural Support

Islamabad, In a pivotal meeting today at Aiwan-e-Sadar, President Asif Ali Zardari called for significant improvements in wheat procurement processes and pricing to better support Pakistan’s farmers. The meeting, which included NFS and R Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and other high-ranking officials, focused on enhancing the agricultural sector’s efficiency and ensuring fair compensation for farmers.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari expressed concern over the challenges faced by farmers, including inadequate compensation for their wheat crops and difficulties in obtaining necessary procurement supplies like Bar Dana. The discussion centered on strategic interventions to raise wheat production and stabilize the agricultural economy.

The President emphasized that nearly 65% of Pakistan’s population resides in rural areas, and supporting these communities is crucial for boosting the overall economy. He advocated for the maintenance of strategic food reserves and the extension of soft loans to the private sector for building state-of-the-art silos and storage facilities to meet the food requirements of the growing population.

Further, President Zardari highlighted the importance of having reliable agricultural data to facilitate timely policy decisions and accurately predict future food needs. He also suggested deregulating the agriculture sector to spur growth and efficiency. The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening food security and supporting the agricultural backbone of the country.
