Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari marked World Environment Day with a strong message on Pakistan’s commitment to combating climate-related challenges, including land degradation, desertification, and droughts. He emphasized the nation’s vulnerability to climate phenomena such as floods, heatwaves, and forest fires, and reiterated the commitment to environmental sustainability through various national initiatives.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, in his official statement, President Zardari highlighted several key environmental efforts, such as the Green Pakistan Programme, which aims at afforestation and ecosystem restoration, and the National Adaptation Plan with Climate Smart Agriculture, dedicated to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and mitigating land degradation.
The President called for the adoption of sustainable land management and water conservation techniques, urging federal and provincial departments, as well as local communities, to actively participate in these efforts. He stressed the importance of enhancing soil water-holding capacity through increased afforestation and restoring degraded lands to ensure Pakistan’s environmental resilience.
On this World Environment Day, President Zardari invited all stakeholders to renew their commitment to protecting the environment and overcoming the pressing challenges it faces, aiming for a healthier, safer, and more resilient planet for future generations.
