Islamabad, Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), recently engaged in pivotal discussions with Ms. Kate Forbes, the newly elected President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Geneva. These talks were part of the preparatory meetings for the 34th International Conference of the IFRC and focused on strengthening global humanitarian efforts and collaborations.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Chairman Laghari presented a set of recommendations during the inaugural session of the meeting, emphasizing the PRCS’s dedication to global humanitarian laws, climate change adaptation, and disaster preparedness. These recommendations aim to guide the upcoming international conference’s agenda and enhance the efficacy of humanitarian responses worldwide.
During his interaction with President Forbes, Chairman Laghari lauded the efforts of the IFRC under her leadership, particularly her focus on national society development, climate change, youth engagement, and resource allocation. He also highlighted the PRCS’s initiatives in environmental conservation and sustainability, including the promotion of solar energy and greenhouse projects.
President Forbes commended Chairman Laghari’s leadership and the PRCS’s role in alleviating suffering in Pakistan, expressing her commitment to further strengthening IFRC’s cooperation with the PRCS to innovate humanitarian services. She also accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between the two organizations.
The meeting concluded with the exchange of souvenirs, symbolizing their mutual commitment to humanitarian work. Chairman Laghari also left his impressions in the visitor’s book, marking a successful diplomatic engagement.
