PPP’s Waqar Mehdi Criticizes Nawaz Sharif’s Unfulfilled Promises to Karachi

Islamabad, Senator Waqar Mehdi, General Secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sindh, criticized former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his unfulfilled promises to Karachi, likening them to commitments “written on ice.” Mehdi accused Sharif of making false announcements and plans for Karachi that were never realized.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Mehdi claimed that Sharif’s actions, such as the closure of steel mills and the impact on thousands of workers, were motivated by interests that harmed the city’s industrial sector. He alleged that Sharif had a personal interest in the assets of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), particularly the Roosevelt Hotel, and accused him of privatizing national assets for personal gain.

Mehdi further commented on the political maneuverings of Sharif, mentioning the controversial ticket given to Sarwar Khan, who Mehdi labeled as an enemy of PIA for running a damaging campaign against the airline. This move, AS per Mehdi, revealed Sharif’s true intentions and strategies.

The PPP leader also criticized Sharif’s approach towards the poor, calling him an “agent of the elite” and asserting that his party’s policies were detrimental to the less fortunate. Mehdi concluded by accusing Nawaz Sharif of avoiding a public debate with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, seeing it as an evasion tactic.

This statement from the PPP highlights ongoing political tensions in Pakistan, particularly in the context of Karachi’s development and the broader political landscape. The accusations against Nawaz Sharif and his party reflect deep-seated rivalries and differing visions for the country’s future.
