POA Advances Integrity in Sports with Engaging Workshops on Fair Play


Islamabad, Continuing its dedicated efforts to uphold the ethical standards in sports, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) successfully conducted the second day of its “POA Integrity Workshop: Fair Play and Beyond.” This event brought together athletes, coaches, and officials for a series of sessions focused on enhancing integrity and welfare within the sports community.



According to Pakistan Olympic Association, the workshop opened with remarks from Mr. Muhammad Inam, Chairman of the POA Athletes Commission, who emphasized the importance of leveraging such educational opportunities to confront and overcome the prevalent challenges in sports. The day’s agenda featured a notable lecture by Ms. Rida Ahmed from the International Olympic Committee on preventing competition manipulation, where she detailed strategies to maintain the purity of sports against risks such as match-fixing.



Later, Mr. Hamdan Nazir, President of the Pakistan Rowing Federation and a MEMOSIAN, delivered a critical session on safeguarding athletes from harassment and abuse, underscoring the necessity of a safe sporting environment. The day concluded with a dynamic panel discussion that delved deeper into issues of integrity, fair play, and athlete welfare.



The workshop also included an interactive session on anti-doping led by Dr. Meesaq Rizvi and Dr. Asad Abbass Shah from the previous day, which featured practical demonstrations on sample collection procedures. The entire event was live-streamed on the NOC Pakistan Facebook page, expanding its accessibility and impact.



Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General of the POA, closed the day by thanking participants for their commitment and engagement, highlighting the crucial role they play in fostering a culture of sportsmanship and excellence as the community prepares for upcoming Olympic Games.
