Pasban Democratic Party Leader Criticizes K Electric’s Role in Collecting Additional Fees

Karachi, Sardar Zulfiqar, a senior leader of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Karachi, has voiced strong criticism against K Electric’s role in collecting TV, radio fees, and municipal taxes. He argued that these fees, including those imposed on mosques, should not be managed by K Electric, which he described as a major concern for the public. The statement questions the rationale behind charging these taxes, especially in a city struggling with inadequate municipal services.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Zulfiqar expressed concerns about the burden of 36 types of taxes already included in K Electric bills and the potential increase in costs due to the addition of municipal committee tax. He highlighted the issue of using the threat of disconnection for non-payment of municipal tax as an exaggerated measure, especially when the city’s sanitation services are lacking. The statement also addressed the increase in electricity peak hours and the higher rates charged per unit, calling on K Electric to address consumer complaints and suggesting that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) set up its own recovery cell for tax collection.

The Pasban Democratic Party’s statement reflects growing discontent among Karachi’s residents about the increasing financial burden of utility bills and the perceived inefficiencies in municipal services. It underscores the need for transparent and fair practices in utility billing and tax collection in the city.
