Islamabad: Pakistan and South Africa begin a three-match One Day International series today in Lahore, a vital warm-up for both teams ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana emphasized the significance of the series as a final tune-up before the World Cup, which commences on September 30. Sana told PCB Digital that the series provides a valuable chance to implement the hard work done during recent training. While acknowledging her team’s bowling prowess, she stressed the importance of improving their batting against South Africa’s diverse bowling attack.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt also highlighted the series’ importance in preparing for the World Cup, especially given the similar playing conditions. She anticipates a tough challenge from Pakistan, recognizing their batting strength and ability to handle spin bowling effectively.
The three ODIs will be played in Lahore on September 16, 19, and 22, before both teams travel to India and Sri Lanka for the World Cup. Pakistan’s campaign starts against Bangladesh in Colombo on October 2, while South Africa will face England in Guwahati on October 3.
