Islamabad: Lahore will witness a thrilling three-match One Day International (ODI) series between Pakistan and South Africa women’s cricket teams, starting today. This series serves as a vital preparatory ground for both nations ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to commence later this month.
The matches, to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium, will offer crucial game time for both squads. Pakistan captain, Fatima Sana, emphasized the significance of the series, highlighting the team’s focus on bolstering their batting performance to complement their traditionally strong bowling attack. Their opponents, led by Laura Wolvaardt, recognize Pakistan’s strengths, particularly their adeptness against spin bowling, and anticipate a competitive series.
Pakistan enters the series with a recent victory over South Africa in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. Experienced players like Aliya Riaz and Nashra Sundhu bring considerable experience against the Proteas, having impressive records in past encounters. The series also marks an opportunity for Eyman Fatima, recently making her T20I debut, to showcase her skills in the 50-over format.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has arranged extensive broadcast coverage for the series, both domestically and internationally, including high-definition broadcasts with a five-member commentary team. To encourage fan attendance, entry to the stadium is free, with designated enclosures for families and different spectator groups.
The eight-team ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be held from September 30th to November 2nd in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka. This series against South Africa will allow both teams to fine-tune their strategies and assess player form before the global tournament.
