Kathmandu, The Pakistani contingent achieved notable success at the 7th South Asian Karate (Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior) Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal, securing a total of 18 medals, including two golds, one silver, and fifteen bronzes. This performance reflects Pakistan’s growing prowess in the sport of karate on the regional stage.
According to Pakistan Karate Federation, the event, which took place from November 28th to December 3rd, 2023, saw a strong representation from Pakistan with 22 players, one coach, and four referees. Pakistani athletes Laiba Zia and Arzo stood out with their impressive performances. Laiba Zia clinched a gold medal in the below 50 kg category and added three bronze medals in individual kata and team kumite events. Arzo secured a gold medal in the below 66 kg category and two bronze medals in team kumite and team kata.
The championship featured teams from South Asian countries including Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, making it a significant platform for regional karate talents. Additionally, the Asian Karate Federation conducted a Referee Seminar and Examination during the championship. Pakistani referees Ms. Quratul Ain and Mr. Wasif Ali successfully qualified for Judge B in the examination, further highlighting the country’s achievements in the event.
Pakistan’s performance in the championship, marked by their impressive medal tally and the success of their referees, signifies the nation’s strengthening position in South Asian karate.
