New Pitches Installed at New York Stadium Ahead of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

New York, The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, located east of Manhattan, has successfully received and begun installation of new cricket pitches in preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June 2024. This development marks a significant preparation milestone as the stadium gears up to host key matches, including a high-profile game between India and Pakistan.

According to International Cricket Council, the pitches were prepared by Adelaide Oval Turf Solutions in Florida since late last year and transported to New York using 20 semi-trailer trucks. The project is led by Damian Hough, the head curator at Adelaide Oval, who oversees the installation of four of the 10 pitches directly at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and the remaining six at adjacent practice facilities.

Hough expressed satisfaction with the progress of the installation, noting that the pitches are in excellent condition and all preparatory benchmarks and measures are exceeding expectations. The venue, which includes a 34,000-seat stadium located at Eisenhower Park, is scheduled to host eight matches during the tournament.

The New York venue will see nine of the 20 participating teams compete, with the spotlight undoubtedly on the match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan scheduled for June 9. Other teams playing at the venue include hosts USA, Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh.

Hough highlighted the design and expected quality of the pitches, aiming for them to provide a balanced contest between bat and ball, characterized by good pace, bounce, and rewarding well-played shots.
