Nearly 1 in 10 (12%) Pakistani households report that someone in their household suffers from sugar/diabetes; this response is more common in females (14%) as compared to males (11%): Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, February 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, nearly 1 in 10 (12%) Pakistani households report that someone in their household suffers from sugar/diabetes; this response is more common in females (14%) as compared to males (11%).

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the four provinces was asked the following question, “Please tell us, God forbid, whether you or anyone in your household is suffering from the following diseases? – Sugar/diabetes? (Please give only one answer)?” In response to this question, 12% said yes, 79% said no, 1% didn’t know and 8% gave no response. According to the Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences, the prevalence of diabetes in Pakistan is 14.62%. However, the actual incidence may be higher because of undiagnosed diabetes.
