Karachi, Amid escalating concerns over public safety, leaders from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (Rebata) have called for immediate government action to address the rampant crime and armed robberies in Karachi, condemning the local administration’s failure to protect the citizens.
According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, the group, led by Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani, voiced their demands following an incident where citizens were shot at by robbers after resisting a robbery. The religious leaders, including Maulana Shirani, Maulana Shijaa Mulk, and Maulana Gul Naseeb, criticized the law enforcement agencies for their apparent negligence and the administration’s incompetence, which they believe has led to daily incidents of violent crime against resisting citizens.
The statement emphasized that the current state of affairs in Karachi, where armed robberies are frequent and often met with violence against civilians, showcases a clear failure of governance and law enforcement. The leaders have demanded that the authorities arrest the perpetrators of the recent shooting immediately, register an FIR, and take more robust measures to ensure the safety and security of Karachi’s residents.
The call to action was supported by a broad coalition of community leaders, including Agha Qasim, Maulana Abdul Khaliq Hazarvi, and representatives from the JUI Youth Wing, reflecting widespread concern among the populace about the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan’s largest city.
