Karachi, Leaders of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Karachi, Sardar Zulfikar and Mian Riaz, have criticized the Karachi administration for its failure to enforce official price controls on essential commodities. The leaders expressed concerns over the unavailability of basic items like flour, meat, poultry, eggs, and vegetables at government-sanctioned rates.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Sardar Zulfikar and Mian Riaz claimed that the Commissioner of Karachi and his team have not succeeded in implementing the official writ effectively. They pointed out that despite reductions in petroleum products, the benefits are not reaching the consumers. The leaders emphasized the need for an effective system at the district level to ensure that price reductions announced by the federal or provincial government are passed on to consumers.
The Pasban Party leaders also called for strict monitoring of vegetable and fruit markets. They argued that shopkeepers are selling these items at significantly higher prices than what they pay in the markets, thus violating official rate lists. They advocated for the establishment of inexpensive markets and the appointment of administration representatives to ensure that people benefit from these markets.
The leaders urged strict action against those responsible for artificial inflation and hoarding. They highlighted the necessity of measures similar to those implemented by former Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui to control inflation and prices. The statement issued by the Pasban Press Information Cell further emphasized the hardships faced by the public due to increasing prices of food items and essential services like electricity and petrol, making it challenging for poor families to afford even basic necessities.
The criticism from the Pasban Democratic Party underscores the growing public discontent over the Karachi administration’s handling of price controls and market regulation, reflecting the need for more effective governance and consumer protection measures.
