International Islamic University Islamabad Hosts Workshop on Innovative Energy Solutions

Islamabad, The Centre for Advanced Electronics and Photovoltaic Engineering (CAEPE) at the International Islamic University Islamabad, in collaboration with its Departments of Physics and Electrical and Computer Engineering, hosted a comprehensive workshop titled “Energizing the Future: Flexible Devices and Systems for Versatile Applications” on May 14, 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in a multi-year project funded by the Pak-UK Gateway Program.

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the workshop was a culmination of efforts under a grant awarded to Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed and Dr. Imran Murtaza, aimed at developing self-powered flexible energy systems. The project, supported by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the British Council, involved collaboration with the University of Glasgow, the University of the West of Scotland, and an industry partner from Oxford.

The event showcased groundbreaking advancements in energy harvesting and storage devices, featuring presentations from top researchers and technology leaders across Pakistan, including Prof. Dr. Zahir Iqbal from GIKI and Prof. Dr. Sabieh Anwar from LUMS. A panel discussion on the commercialization and impact of research in Pakistan was a highlight, involving prominent figures such as Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza from the HEC and Prof. Dr. Shafaat Ahmad Bazaz.

A key moment of the workshop was the unveiling of a new Flexible Self-powered Module for Versatile Applications, introduced by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed. This innovation, developed through the grant, represents a significant achievement for IIUI on the international stage.

Dr. Hathal Homoud Al-Otaibi, President of IIUI, commended the project’s success and encouraged the university community to continue focusing on innovation. He emphasized the strategic planning that has supported such initiatives, marking a forward-thinking trajectory for IIUI.
