Lahore, Government College University (GCU) Lahore and the Punjab Probation and Parole Service have entered into a strategic partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to integrate academic resources with community-oriented services. The agreement, signed in a ceremony at GCU’s Syndicate Committee Room, focuses on initiatives including student internships, joint research, and community counseling programs.
According to Government College University, the MoU was signed by GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir and Director General of Punjab Probation and Parole, Mr. Muhammad Shahid Iqbal. The event was also attended by notable academic figures such as Dean Prof. Dr. Sultan Shah, Director of Academic Planning and External Links Dr. Fauzia Shaheen, and Chairperson of the Psychology Department Prof. Syeda Salma Hassan.
The collaboration aims to offer practical training and research opportunities for GCU students while contributing to community development through various capacity-building programs. Vice Chancellor Bashir highlighted the commitment to addressing psychological issues within the community, emphasizing the benefits of the partnership in enhancing the university’s educational impact and social responsibility.
Mr. Iqbal, expressing pride in aligning with his alma mater, underscored the potential societal benefits of the partnership, particularly in psychological counseling and public health. “This collaboration not only brings our resources together but also aims to foster harmony and happiness among the community by addressing and resolving psychological issues through professional counseling,” he noted.
