Fahmina Arshad’s “Sian Fahmiyaan” launches at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi

Karachi, “Sian Fahmiyaan,” a collection of columns by Fahmina Arshad, was launched at the Hasina Moin Hall, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Special Events Committee. The event featured prominent speakers who discussed the impact of Arshad’s writings on societal issues and the importance of accessible Urdu literature.

According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the launch was chaired by Mahmood Sham, with notable personalities like Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, Umrana Maqsood, and others delivering speeches. Mahmood Sham highlighted in his presidential address that society has often ignored the pervasive evils within it, commending Arshad for her sharp critique through her columns. Umrana Maqsood emphasized the challenge in engaging the youth with Urdu literature, criticizing the complex language that alienates younger readers.

The speakers praised Arshad’s ability to articulate complex psychological and societal issues in a relatable and straightforward manner. Mehtab Akbar Rashidi remarked on the timeless relevance of the issues discussed in Arshad’s book, despite the freshness of its style. Khurram Sohail echoed this sentiment, noting the personal touch in Arshad’s writing that makes difficult topics more approachable.

The event also addressed broader educational and societal challenges, with Hassan Bin Rizwan pointing out the dire state of education in Pakistan, where a significant portion of children lack standard schooling. The launch was described as a significant moment for the Arts Council, reinforcing its role in promoting literature and the arts in Pakistan.
