Classical Music Evening Celebrates Rich Heritage at Punjab Arts Council

Rawalpindi, A classical music event titled “Raag Rang Khayal Gayaki” was held at the Punjab Arts Council, featuring performances that showcased traditional ragas to a receptive audience. Prominent figures including the Director of the Arts Council, Sajjad Hussain, and musicians such as Nadeem Riaz Khan and Ghulam Abbas were in attendance, contributing to the vibrant celebration of classical music heritage.

According to Punjab Arts Council, the event emphasized the importance of classical music forms like Thumri, Dadra, Kafi, and Khayal Gayaki, and recognized the contributions of various gharanas such as Sham Chaurasi and Patiala. The evening was marked by performances that drew applause and highlighted the enduring legacy of legendary musicians like Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and others who have shaped the genre. The assistant director, Muhammad Suleman, commented on the need to engage the youth with their cultural roots through such musical gatherings, underscoring the event’s role in cultural preservation and education.
