Karachi, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), marked World Environment Day by emphasizing the critical need for global environmental protection and urgent action against climate change. In his address, Zardari detailed Pakistan’s significant challenges due to climate change, including severe floods, droughts, and extreme weather conditions, positioning the country among the most affected globally.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Zardari, during his tenure as Foreign Minister, advocated internationally for Pakistan’s environmental issues, highlighting the country’s dual affliction of climate change and environmental injustice. He underscored the ongoing struggles faced by Pakistan due to environmental imbalances and reiterated the necessity for comprehensive international cooperation and support.
The PPP Chairman reaffirmed his party’s commitment to addressing climate impacts through tangible measures, including the construction of climate-resilient homes for victims of the devastating 2022 floods. He cited the Sindh government’s initiative to build homes for two million flood victims as an exemplary global model. Zardari also stressed that development should not compromise environmental integrity and highlighted environmental protection as a collective responsibility across all sectors of society.
