KARACHI, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has expressed confidence in his party’s success in the forthcoming general elections. Speaking at a media talk in Karachi after opening a Free Diagnostic Laboratory by the JDC Foundation, Zardari predicted a win for the PPP, anticipating that they would form the next government.
According to Media Cell Bilawal House, Zardari discussed the recent announcement from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) scheduling the general elections for February 8. He expressed that the Supreme Court’s involvement in the election date decision was unnecessary, but now that a date is set, he emphasized the importance of holding the elections as planned. The PPP Chairman stressed the need for fairness, recalling past elections where he felt his party was not given an equitable chance, yet they still managed to secure governance.
Zardari also addressed inquiries regarding a potential alliance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that while no decision has been made, the PPP would welcome all parties, including PTI, to adhere to the Charter of Democracy. This adherence, he indicated, would be a positive development for the political landscape of Pakistan.
On the topic of refugees, the Chairman insisted that while no illegal actions should be supported, the current approach towards refugees raises human rights concerns. The PPP has always maintained a firm stance on human rights, Zardari added, calling for law enforcement that also respects human dignity.
Addressing the situation in Gaza, Zardari, Pakistan’s former foreign minister, highlighted the global outcry on social media against the violence and labeled the treatment of Palestinian children as genocide. He called on international leaders to respond and act against the atrocities.
Furthermore, Zardari underscored the importance of community spaces for the youth and vowed that the PPP, upon winning the next election, would create more People’s Squares and sports fields in every district of Karachi, drawing from past initiatives.
The event also saw the presence of significant PPP figures, including former Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Waqar Mehdi. Zafar Abbas, General Secretary of JDC Foundation Pakistan, greeted Chairman Zardari upon his arrival. The inauguration of the JDC Free Diagnostic Laboratory marked a commitment to healthcare services, a cause for which Zardari lauded the JDC Foundation, especially for its efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic and recent floods.
