Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Criticizes Political Rivals, Stresses Consensus in Quetta Press Conference

Quetta, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, during a press conference in Quetta, warned against the potential negative impacts of either the PML-N or the PTI coming to power in the upcoming general elections, scheduled for February 8.

According to Pakistan People’s Party, Chairman Zardari expressed his concerns about the politics of revenge that he believes both the PML-N and the PTI are engaged in. He emphasized the need for moving away from conflict-driven politics towards reconciliation and consensus-based decision-making. He criticized the narrative of the 2018 elections, which he claimed unfairly glorified certain individuals while disparaging others.

Chairman Zardari confidently stated that the PPP would surprise everyone in the upcoming elections, citing the overwhelming participation in the party’s foundation day rally in Balochistan as an indication of public support. He underscored the importance of consensus among political parties and institutions for the country’s progress, moving away from confrontational politics.

Addressing Pakistan’s main challenges, Chairman Zardari identified inflation, unemployment, and poverty as the key issues. He asserted that a PPP government is necessary to address these problems and to bring together all aspects of the federation, including different political parties, language speakers, and regions.

Regarding Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Zardari advised the PML-N supremo to focus on ideology rather than administrative tactics in the elections. He also expressed strong opposition to any attempts to roll back the 18th Constitutional Amendment, viewing such actions as detrimental to the resources and autonomy of the provinces. He emphasized that the PPP government would complete the devolution process and close certain federal ministries to allocate funds more effectively for the people.

Responding to questions about political dynamics, Chairman Zardari remarked that PPP aims to be favored by the public rather than relying on political maneuvering. He highlighted his party’s commitment to providing a level playing field for all political parties, as exemplified by President Asif Ali Zardari’s role in empowering provinces through the 18th amendment.

On the issue of Afghan citizens, the PPP Chairman called for a well-considered approach involving all stakeholders, stressing the need for peaceful coexistence on both sides of the Durand Line. He urged the government to engage in dialogue with protestors in Chaman to find amicable solutions, and for Afghanistan to align its policies closely with Pakistan’s interests.
