Karachi, In the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, Bangladesh’s head coach, Stuart Law, is emphasizing a process-driven approach to propel the team towards success. Having previously won the tournament in 2020, Bangladesh is now aiming for another title in South Africa. Law, a former Australian international, is guiding the team with a focus on daily improvement and staying present, rather than dwelling on past achievements.
According to International Cricket Council, Law discussed the team’s strategy in an exclusive interview. He stressed the importance of looking forward rather than backward, explaining that a focus on continuous daily improvement is key to becoming a strong cricket team. Under Law’s guidance, Bangladesh U19 has been working with a process-oriented approach over the past six months, believing that if the processes are correct, favorable outcomes will naturally follow.
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s performance in the group stages, Law acknowledged the mixed results. The team finished second in their group, behind India. They experienced a defeat against India in their opening match but managed to secure wins against Ireland and the USA. Law expressed satisfaction with the team’s ability to bounce back and qualify for the Super Six stage, despite acknowledging room for improvement.
Individual performances have been a highlight of Bangladesh’s campaign so far. Law pointed out fast bowler Maruf Mridha’s impressive five-wicket haul against India and middle-order batter Ariful Islam’s century against the USA as standout contributions. He emphasized that the team’s success has been a collective effort, with several players making solid contributions throughout the tournament.
As the team prepares for the Super Six challenge, Law’s message to his batters is clear: understand the significance of the U19 World Cup in shaping their future in international cricket. He urged them to seize opportunities and convert starts into substantial scores, emphasizing the potential of some players in the squad to reach higher levels of cricket in the near future.
Law also shared his personal satisfaction in coaching at the U19 level. He finds joy in helping young players develop their skills, apply solutions on the field, and achieve success. This aspect of coaching, As per Law, is particularly rewarding at the youth level.
Bangladesh is set to face Nepal and Pakistan in the Super Six stage of the tournament. With Law at the helm, the team is focused on embracing the process over the outcome, a philosophy they hope will lead them to victory in the prestigious U19 World Cup.
