ISLAMABAD , Anamul Haque has been officially approved to join the Bangladesh squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, stepping in for the injured all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
According to International Cricket Council (ICC), with 45 One Day Internationals (ODIs) to his name, will replace Shakib following a finger injury. Shakib sustained a fracture to the index finger of his left hand during a game against Sri Lanka on November 6, sidelining him from the competition.
The substitution process for injured players is stringent, requiring formal sanction from the Event Technical Committee before any replacement player can be assimilated into the squad. The committee responsible for this approval comprises notable cricket administration figures including Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket & Committee Chair), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Hemang Amin (Acting CEO of BCCI), Gaurav Saxena (BCCI General Manager – Operations), along with independent members Russel Arnold and Simon Doull.
This decision comes at a critical juncture in the World Cup series, as teams make strategic adjustments to their lineups to navigate the challenges of injury and form.
