Adabi Majlis Commemorates Saadat Hassan Manto with a Dedicated Session

Lahore, The University of Central Punjab hosted a session organized by Adabi Majlis titled “Remembering Saadat Hassan Manto,” featuring renowned novelist and PTV anchor, Mr. Ali Nawaz Shah as the keynote speaker. The event delved into the literary contributions and life of Manto, one of the subcontinent’s most celebrated short-story writers.

According to University of Central Punjab, the session opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Ms. Rabia Asad, the Joint Secretary of Adabi Majlis. The event was well-attended by members of the society and university community. The Vice President of Adabi Majlis, Mr. Saad Sabri, enhanced the session’s engagement by reading one of Manto’s acclaimed short stories. This was followed by a screening of a segment from Sarmad Khoosat’s film “Manto,” which included the song “Mehram Dila De Mahi” that resonated with the themes of the story shared.

Mr. Ali Nawaz Shah, in his keynote, provided a concise and insightful exploration of Manto’s distinctive writing style and the unique challenges faced by writers during Manto’s era. The event concluded with a thank-you note from the President of Adabi Majlis, Mr. Alham Tariq, who expressed gratitude to both the speaker for his enlightening discourse and the attendees for their active participation, underlining the event’s collaborative and appreciative atmosphere.
