Karachi, Ziauddin University’s Department of Molecular Medicine and Department of Research recently conducted a two-day workshop titled “Unlocking Molecular Biology Techniques: From DNA Extraction to PCR”. The event, held on November 15th and 16th, focused on providing participants with practical experience and comprehensive knowledge in various molecular biology techniques, critical for advancing research in the field.
According to Ziauddin University, the workshop was led by Chief Organizer Dr. Yamna Khurshid and featured several experts in the field. Prof. Dr. Talat Mirza, Executive Director of Research and Head of the Department of Molecular Medicine, initiated the event with an overview of fundamental concepts and recent advancements in molecular biology. Dr. Khurshid delivered a detailed lecture on DNA extraction methods and gel electrophoresis, followed by a hands-on session conducted by Mr. Moazzam Shahid. Additionally, Dr. Shumaila Usman provided insights into RNA isolation and conducted a training session on this topic.
The second day of the workshop saw Dr. Usman presenting on cDNA synthesis, while Dr. Khurshid led a session on PCR and primer designing. The event concluded with a closing ceremony where participants expressed their appreciation for the knowledge gained. Prof. Dr. Abbas Zafar, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, commended the facilitators’ efforts and presented certificates to the attendees.
The workshop was a significant step towards enhancing the practical skills and understanding of participants in vital molecular biology techniques, contributing to the broader field of scientific research and innovation.
