Islamabad: Pakistan paid tribute to United Nations peacekeepers worldwide, recognizing their dedication and sacrifice, as President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the nation’s longstanding contribution to peacekeeping efforts. The acknowledgment coincided with the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s role as a leading troop contributor, with over 270,000 Pakistani peacekeepers having participated in 48 missions across four continents over more than six decades. The message also honored 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who lost their lives in service to international peace and security.
Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations was further underscored by the presence of Pakistani women peacekeepers and the ongoing hosting of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). This mission reflects the international community’s responsibility toward resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
The work of UN peacekeepers, in protecting civilians and supporting essential services in conflict-affected regions, remains crucial amid global tensions. Pakistan reaffirmed its support for UN peacekeeping and expressed solidarity with peacekeepers globally, underlining the importance of maintaining international peace and security.
