Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in partnership with the Sports Journalists Association of Sindh (SJAS), held a commemorative event to honor Qamar Ahmed, a prominent cricket journalist, commentator, author, and former first-class cricketer. The event attracted former Test cricketers, notable journalists, and members of the sporting community who gathered to celebrate Ahmed's contributions to cricket.

According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the event featured speeches and tributes from former cricketers Sadiq Mohammad, Jalaluddin, Moin Khan, and Shoaib Mohammad, as well as video messages from cricket legends like Wasim Akram and Michael Holding. They highlighted Ahmed's vast knowledge and passion for cricket, which earned him international recognition as an authority on the sport. His dedication to cricket was so profound that he never married, often referring to the game as his "bride."

Speakers at the event recalled Ahmed's influential career, including his time in the United Kingdom, which shaped his journalistic endeavors. His London home was known as a welcoming place for Pakistani cricketers and journalists. The speakers also recognized his mentorship to younger colleagues and his interests beyond cricket, which encompassed literature, poetry, and music.

There was a collective call for the Government of Pakistan to award Ahmed a posthumous Presidential Civil Award, acknowledging his unparalleled coverage of 453 Test matches, 742 One Day Internationals, and nine ICC Cricket World Cups. The ceremony concluded with prayers for Ahmed's soul, marking the end of a tribute to a figure whose work left an indelible mark on cricket journalism.
