Zardari Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Sovereignty Amid Regional Tensions

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed that Pakistan remains firmly committed to safeguarding its national interests, regional sovereignty, and security.

In a recent statement, President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan will not accept any disputed or misleading positions on Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated that India’s claims over the territory contradict international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.

President Zardari expressed concern over the current Interim Afghan administration’s stance, which he believes undermines the struggle of the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He accused the Afghan administration of neglecting historical and religious ties.

The President pointed to attacks from the Interim Afghan Government’s territory by India-supported Khawarij terrorists, which he claimed have been documented in United Nations reports. He asserted that Pakistan has consistently highlighted the targeting of its civilians and security personnel by these groups.

President Zardari urged the Afghan government to take decisive action against anti-Pakistan terrorist elements operating from Afghan soil. He identified the Khawarij and other India-backed groups as significant threats to regional peace.

He remarked that terrorism is a collective challenge and should not burden any single nation. Pakistan, he noted, has shown solidarity by hosting millions of Afghan refugees over the years and stressed the need for their dignified return.

The President reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s educational and humanitarian needs, while maintaining that national sovereignty is non-negotiable.

President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate Afghanistan in areas like trade and economic connectivity, stressing that mutual cooperation is key to regional prosperity.

He expressed hope for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, urging the Interim Afghan Government to prevent its territory from being used against Pakistan. He concluded that only joint efforts can ensure lasting peace in the region.
