ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Australian High Commissioner Mr. Neil Hawkins paid a farewell call on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.
The President commended Hawkins for his efforts in strengthening Pakistan-Australia relations during his tenure. He noted that the High Commissioner’s contributions had advanced cooperation in political, economic, and defense areas, while also deepening people-to-people connections between the two nations.
President Zardari emphasized that Pakistan and Australia have long maintained friendly and cooperative relations, supported by shared interests and mutual respect. He expressed optimism that the two countries will continue to build on their partnership.
Discussing economic ties, the President pointed out that while bilateral trade is growing, it has not yet reached its full potential. He stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to expand trade and investment opportunities.
Mr. Hawkins shared details of his recent visit to Sindh and briefed President Zardari on ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Australia in agriculture and climate change. He expressed gratitude for the hospitality he and his family experienced in Pakistan, noting the country’s dynamic ethnic and cultural diversity.
Wishing Mr. Hawkins success in his future endeavors, President Zardari expressed hope that the High Commissioner would depart with warm memories of Pakistan and its people.
