Karachi: In a pioneering move to empower women and improve mobility, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, distributed keys to electric scooties under the innovative Free Electric Pink Scooters Scheme. This initiative, launched by the Sindh government’s Transport Department, marks the first of its kind in the country.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed pride in Sindh’s leadership in enhancing public transportation, highlighting previous introductions such as electric buses and the women-only Pink Bus Service. The new scooter project aims to facilitate women’s access to employment and improve their travel options significantly.
Furthermore, Bilawal announced plans for another upcoming project, the Pink Taxis, also focusing on providing women with safe travel and employment opportunities. Echoing Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s vision for women’s empowerment, he emphasized the government’s commitment to offering maximum opportunities for women, contrasting it with countries imposing restrictions on women.
The collaboration with fast-food giant KFC was acknowledged for their role in training women bikers and assisting in obtaining driving licenses. Bilawal urged the private sector to engage in public-private partnerships with the Sindh government, citing successful projects in Tharparkar and improvements in infrastructure, education, and health as evidence of its effectiveness.
Additionally, Bilawal announced financial aid for flood-affected farmers through the Benazir Hari Card, supporting landowners with up to 25 acres in purchasing fertilizer.
The event was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, and other provincial leaders, underscoring the provincial government’s united front in these transformative initiatives.
