Karachi: In a captivating session at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, distinguished painter Javed Iqbal Mughal unveiled his intricate techniques of color application to a crowd of aspiring artists and notable figures from the art community. The workshop, held at Studio II in the Ahmed Shah Building, attracted illustrious personalities like Shahid Rassam, Muhammad Zeeshan, and Nazar ul Islam, alongside a large gathering of art students eager to learn from the master.
Javed Iqbal Mughal, known for his unique artistic expressions, focused on the critical aspect of color understanding in painting. He highlighted the frequent challenge faced by many budding artists—difficulty in recognizing and utilizing colors effectively—which often leads to their premature departure from the art world. Mughal advised that patience with the paint medium enhances the final artwork, stressing that the conceptualization process on the canvas refines the artistic creation.
During his address, Mughal also shared insights into the necessity of quality pigments and layering techniques. He advised artists to lay a foundational layer before building upon it gradually, and to employ specific methods rather than using white directly on skin tones. He compared his artwork to cinematic storytelling, where different characters are represented through varied color schemes, creating a narrative within each painting. His methodology often involves leaving certain parts undefined, akin to the roles of heroes and villains depicted through warm and cool hues, respectively.
The session was met with enthusiastic participation from the Arts Council’s art school attendees, who gained invaluable insights from Mughal’s extensive experience and artistic philosophy.
