Pulitzer Center Launches AI Accountability Fellowships to Foster Investigative Journalism

Washington: The Pulitzer Center has announced the launch of its AI Accountability Fellowships, designed to support journalists worldwide in exploring the multifaceted impacts of artificial intelligence. The program aims to enhance transparency and scrutiny of AI systems through in-depth reporting on their funding, construction, and implementation by influential entities including corporations and governments. Fellows will receive financial backing, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to aid their investigative efforts.

According to Pak NGOs, The Fellowship program will equip selected journalists with up to $20,000 in funding, distributed in three installments, to cover various reporting expenses. Participants will also gain access to a supportive community, specialized training, and opportunities for collaboration with peers and mentors from diverse professional backgrounds. This initiative seeks to address underreported issues in AI, promoting rigorous journalism that informs public understanding and discourse on the technology’s societal roles and risks.

The Pulitzer Center is specifically encouraging applications from journalists in the Global South and underrepresented media communities, with a focus on those who can report on AI’s local and global impacts. Projects may range from examining AI’s financial ecosystems and supply chains to scrutinizing legislative and corporate practices that affect transparency and accountability. The initiative also includes monthly meetings and collaborative platforms to foster interaction and learning among fellows, enhancing the breadth and depth of their reporting projects.
