Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded Prince Rahim Aga Khan the Nishan-i-Pakistan, the highest civilian honor, in recognition of his extensive contributions to the development and progress of Pakistan. The investiture ceremony took place today at Aiwan-e-Sadr and was attended by high-level officials including ministers, members of Parliament, and diplomats.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the award celebrates Prince Rahim’s leadership in advancing significant initiatives across various sectors through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). These initiatives include commercial banking, microfinance, insurance, sustainable tourism, and renewable energy. Notably, his efforts in environmental stewardship and climate change policies have positioned him as a pivotal figure in Pakistan’s developmental trajectory. The AKDN has also facilitated access to financial services for nearly 50 million people in the country.
Following the ceremony, Prince Rahim met with President Zardari to discuss further contributions of the AKDN in Pakistan’s socio-economic growth. The meeting also included Sultan Ali Allana, Chairman of HBL, among other senior officials. President Zardari expressed gratitude for Prince Rahim’s visit and contributions, and they discussed the importance of focusing on educational development in Pakistan.
Prince Rahim expressed his thanks for the prestigious award and acknowledged the ongoing partnership between the AKDN and Pakistan, pledging continued support for the country’s development.
