Karachi, The credibility and impartiality of the upcoming elections are being questioned due to irregularities in the allotment of election symbols. This concern was raised by Dr. Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, President of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan and the National Solidarity Council.
According to Jamiat Ulema Islam, Dr. Zubair expressed strong reactions to the discrepancies in the allocation of election symbols, which he believes are tarnishing the reputation of the Election Commission and fostering public doubt. He cited specific examples from his party, Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (Noorani), where candidates were assigned incorrect symbols. In one instance, PS64 candidate Abdul Rehman Rajput was given the symbol of JUP Noorani instead of the key, despite the party name being correctly mentioned in the nomination form. Similarly, Shahida Sulaiman Haqqani, contesting for the National Assembly from NA-247 constituency in Karachi, was allotted a chain instead of a key.
These instances of misallocation have raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the election process. Dr. Zubair argues that such irregularities indicate favoritism and could lead to increasing doubts about the conduct of free, fair, and impartial elections.
He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take immediate action to rectify these issues. Dr. Zubair emphasized the importance of promptly allotting the correct party symbols to the affected candidates, including Abdul Rahman Rajput and Shahida Sulaiman Haqqani, to restore faith in the election process and uphold the Election Commission’s impartiality.
This situation highlights the significance of meticulous and transparent processes in election management, especially in ensuring that party symbols, a crucial aspect of the electoral process, are correctly allocated to maintain public trust in democratic procedures.
