Islamabad, In a significant meeting held on Monday, Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), met with the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Her Excellency Dilsad Senol, in Islamabad. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation for humanitarian efforts.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the meeting provided an opportunity for both dignitaries to discuss various topics of mutual interest. Chairman Laghari gave Ambassador Senol an extensive overview of the PRCS’s work, particularly highlighting its response to the recent floods in Pakistan. He detailed the organization’s efforts in providing assistance in 55 districts, which benefited over 2.7 million people through various forms of aid including tents, food, non-food items, shelter, cash assistance, and essential household items.
The chairman further emphasized the significant role of PRCS since the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, noting its response to over 45 major emergencies and disasters, which aided more than 12.4 million beneficiaries. He also highlighted the society’s vast network of 6 million volunteers across Pakistan. Chairman Laghari proposed collaboration between the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and the Northern Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent on various healthcare and community-based initiatives through different programs and projects. He also extended an invitation to Ambassador Senol to visit the PRCS National Headquarters.
Ambassador Dilsad Senol commended the exceptional services of the PRCS during natural disasters and emergencies, especially their recent humanitarian assistance to flood-affected families in Pakistan. She assured that cooperation with the Red Crescent would be strengthened to ensure continuous service to humanity. As a token of appreciation and remembrance, Chairman Laghari presented a commemorative shield from PRCS to Ambassador Senol.
The meeting signifies the commitment of both parties to work collaboratively in humanitarian efforts and to strengthen their bilateral relationship for the betterment of humanity.
