Lahore, 16 Oct 2023: In a move to strengthen ties between academia and industry, the Aerodyne Group, a global leader in drone solutions, visited Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on October 9. Dr. Lim Eu Shawn, Chief Global Solutions Officer, and Mr. Adnan Chaudhry, Group’s Director of Artificial Intelligence and Country Head, were among the delegates. They were welcomed by the university’s senior leadership, faculty members, and administrative heads.

The visit opened with an interactive session where LUMS representatives shared the institution’s accomplishments and research initiatives. Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, Dean of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) underscored the robust research ecosystem at LUMS that delves into areas like food-water-energy nexus, disease management, agricultural innovation, and materials science.
Faculty members also highlighted their departments’ achievements and the scope of collaboration with the industry. Dr. Muhammad Abubakr emphasized the role of the Agricultural Robotics Lab in sustainable agriculture, while Dr. Momin Ayub Uppal, head of the Electrical Engineering department, spotlighted projects harnessing the power of AI.
Dr. Shawn shared Aerodyne’s vision and its intention to contribute to Pakistan’s development beyond commercial interests. He stressed the company’s desire to foster job creation, bolster research partnerships, and encourage more women to venture into STEM fields. Expressing anticipation for a potential collaboration, Dr. Shawn remarked, “We aim to empower job creation, drive research collaborations, and inspire more women to pursue STEM fields.” Aerodyne is looking forward to augmenting the student experience, enhancing graduate placement, bolstering research, and offering industry advisory support in conjunction with LUMS.
