230 ambulances integrated into Rescue Services 1122 in Sindh

Karachi, May 31, 2022 (PPI-OT):Establishing Rescue Services in Sindh, the Government of Sindh in collaboration with World Bank, in its first phase has handed over 50 ambulances to the Sindh Health Department. There are 230 ambulances in total that will be catering to the entire province and all phases of this ambulance integration will be complete by October of this year.

Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho attended the inauguration ceremony as chief guest along with Chief Minister, Sindh, Murad Ali Shah. Sindh is one of the most vulnerable regions in terms of climate change and natural disasters, there are also high incidences of road traffic accidents and that is why it is integral that there be rescue services available in the province.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, said that there are already 85 ambulances available in Thatta, Sujawal and Karachi. However, 50 more ambulances being integrated into the system will have advanced trauma, cardiac and obstetric life support facilities available inside the ambulances.

She added that the ambulances will have trained personnel including drivers and paramedics that are both trained in first aid at least. In addition to fire department and police services will also be merged into the rescue services so that all emergencies can be catered to when 1122 is dialed and emergencies responded to.

Dr. Azra further stated that aside from the ambulance services there will also be rapid response centers starting from Mirpur Mathelo and going on till Gambat, Moro, Hyderabad, Nooriabad and Malir Karachi. These rapid response centers will be satellites of the Shaheed Benazirabad Trauma Center. There will also be a rescue center every 50km along the highway so as to respond as quickly as possible to any road side emergencies.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Adviser to Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary, Mr. Sohail Rajput, Parliamentary Secretary Health, Mr. Qasim Soomro, Secretary Health, Mr. Zulfiqar Shah, DG Health, Dr. Juman Bahoto and Country Director World Bank, Mr. Najy Benhassine.
