Governor urges universities to focus on character building of students – Press Release issued by University of the Punjab

Lahore, April 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): Governor Punjab/Chancellor Punjab University Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman has urged the universities to focus on strengthening the character of students and teachers must play an effective role in classrooms in this regard. He expressed these views during an introductory meeting with Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood at Governor’s house here on Thursday. Talking to the VC, the governor said that the universities must be run in accordance with rules and regulations.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood shared various initiatives with the governor related to the development of universities and promotion of research culture. He said that efforts would be made to implement the vision of the chancellor and improve international ranking of the university further. Governor Punjab assured the VC of full support for the improvement of universities.

FoLL’s Book Delivery Phase 1 – Press Release issued by University of Central Punjab

Lahore, April 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Faculty of Languages and Literature completed its first phase of course book delivery. Mr. Nohaiz Mehmood (Faculty Industry Liaison Officer, FoLL), Ms. Fatima Urooj (Program Coordinator), Ms. Amna Naeem (Faculty Member, FoLL), and the students of the 8th Semester of BS English visited Baithak School Network (Johar Town Campus) for this task. This school network exclusively targets children in slum areas and provides them with quality education and ethical training till the primary level.

Baithak School Network constantly needs financial and other financial assistance to meet its objectives. The delivery of Course Packs from FoLL, UCP is a significant part of this assistance. FoLL’s Social Work committee distributed 500-course books for the students of KG-l, KG-ll, Grade-I, and Grade-ll recommended by the Punjab Text Book Board. In addition, the students from UCP carried out different activities with the young students of Baithak School Network, such as reading, painting, colouring, etc. This project will also inculcate enthusiasm for social service in our graduates.

FJWU Joins Hands with NC State University for Climate Change Mitigation – Press Release issued by Fatima Jinnah Women University

Rawalpindi, April 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): The International Workshop on Impressions of Climate Change and Perpetual Natural Disasters’, was held under the auspices of the Project -‘Developing the Next Generation of Women Environmentalists’ – a Pakistani Women Universities Climate Change Consortium, on Wednesday the 26th of April, 2023, from 9:30am to 4:00pm at the New Auditorium of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi. The Vice Chancellor – Dr. Saima Hamid, welcomed all the esteemed guests of the workshop-The project coordinator in Pakistan Prof. Dr. Lewis Owen, Prof. Dr. Walter Robinson, Prof. Dr. Carli Arendt, and Prof. Dr. Stacy Zhang from North Carolina State University, USA (NCSU). The project coordinator in Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Rohama Gill, gave an overview of the project, highlighting the project goals, objectives, and deliverables. Prof. Gill thanked the US State Department and the US Mission in Islamabad for the generous patronage for the project.

Mr. Arif Muhammad Goheer, Head of Agriculture and Coordination and GCISC Ministry of Climate Change, Islamabad, and Mr. Paul Giblin, the Public Diplomacy Officer and also the program officer of the project at the US Embassy Islamabad, also joined the session to share their expertise on the subject matter. Professor Dr. Uzaira Rafique, Chairperson of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology spoke about the 25 years of excellence of the Department of Environmental Sciences, FJWU. The workshop was meticulously planned and executed by Professor Dr. Rohama Gill, the project coordinator in Pakistan, who ensured that the workshop remained productive and engaging for all participants. The workshop was divided into three sessions, where experts in their respective fields shared their precious insights on climate change and natural disasters.

The participants interacted with the US faculty members and gained valuable knowledge about the subject matter. The workshop was conducted in a comfortable and ambient environment, where the faculty, guest speakers, and students interacted effectively. At the end of each session, the esteemed guests were presented with university souvenirs as a token of appreciation. The workshop turned out to be another successful event at FJWU, which never fails to set benchmarks in the field of research and diverse opportunities for its students.

FJWU is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and holds a good reputation for bringing various policy-makers, experts, and contributors from diverse backgrounds, countries, and disciplines. Research Skills Training Series – 2023, AFPGMI – Press Release issued by National University of Medical Sciences

Rawalpindi, April 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): Research and Development Department of Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) has initiated Research Skills Training Series for the Year 2023 to equip all undergraduate and postgraduate students with the necessary skills and knowledge for doing research. The main purpose of this series is to bring the community, universities, faculty, scholar, and students work together to enhance research opportunities, research skills, knowledge creation, and dissemination of knowledge. Research is all about creating new knowledge and extending existing literature. It is a kind of engagement with research that goes further than participation in it.

One-day workshop on “Referencing and Citation” was conducted for MSc Healthcare and Administration, College of Nursing and BS Allied Health Sciences by Ms. Saba Khursheed, Research Officer, Research and Development Department, AFPGMI, NUMS. The focus of this workshop was to highlight the importance of citation and referencing in research to enhance the academic credibility of work and help to trace sources of information. The second workshop on “Literature Review and Synthesis “was organized for the College of Nursing and BS Allied Health Sciences by Dr. Shumaila Naz, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, NUMS.

She guided students to understand the purpose and basic requirements for writing an effective literature review and critically assessing the research materials. Furthermore, she taught the students how to develop strategies for inventing, organizing, and drafting a literature review and cite sources appropriately.

World Book and Copy Day was celebrated at IUB on 23rd April 2023 – Press Release issued by The Islamia University of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur, April 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has the tradition to observe World Book Day and Copyright Day on 23rd April every year. On this day, UNESCO recognizes the various stakeholders that make up the book sector – authors, publishers, booksellers, and libraries and information centers and picked Indigenous Languages as the theme. In 2023, the theme of World Book and Copyright Day is to link the power of literature and storytelling with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-32). Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur especially emphasized on the role of academic institutions and libraries and information centers at all levels for promoting, dissemination and preservation of indigenous knowledge and literature.

The Islamia University of Bahawalpur organizes a mega international Bahawalpur Literary and Cultural Festivals every year to promote indigenous literature, languages and culture. Many other activities are arranged throughout the year for knowledge creation, sharing, dissemination and managing knowledge systems. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to encourage and promote reading and publishing, as well as provide awareness and advance the protection of intellectual property through copyright. She urged that reading culture should be promoted as it helps in the personality development, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills among students and all readers.
