Seminar on Scholarship Opportunities for Pakistani Students in Russia 

Lahore, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):From February 26 to March 3, 2023, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan hosts an exhibition of Russian education with the participation of representatives of Russian universities. The first similar exhibition, held in November 2022, was held in Karachi and aroused great interest among both potential students and the faculty of leading universities in Karachi.

This time representatives of Russian universities will also hold working meetings in Lahore. The first university where the Russian delegation will arrive will be the Punjab University, the leadership of which pays special attention to the promotion of Russian language, providing the students with the opportunity to study it at the department of Russian at Institute of Languages and linguistics.

As part of the planned events, the delegation of Russian universities will meet with the leadership of the University, the faculty of the departments, visit the Russian language department and hold a presentation meeting for students of the Punjab University.

Together with a delegation of Russian universities, the head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will visit Punjab University to discuss the implementation of joint cultural and educational programs, as well as support and promotion of work to popularize the Russian language in the province and at the University.

The leadership and workers of Pakistan People’s Party have restored democracy by sacrificing their lives, Federal Minister and Information Secretary Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Shazia Marri

Karachi, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Secretary Information Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Shazia Marri has said that Imran Khan’s brain is plastered not only on his leg. A ladle has made a mockery of democracy and the constitution. In one of her statements, Shazia Marri said that the leadership and workers of PPP have restored democracy by sacrificing their lives. Asif Ali Zardari dignified the position of the President and empowered the Parliament.

The restoration of the 1973 constitution is the fulfilment of the mission of Ms. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed. Shazia Marri said that Imran Niazi’s agenda is to weaken the parliament. The Assembly of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not complete the term at the request of Imran Niazi. He said that after resigning, he says in the court that the speaker has wronged him, and after giving his voluntary resignation, he is mourning the recovery in the court. UAE win by eight wickets over Singapore while Nepal trounce Hong Kong by nine wickets and Malaysia outscore Kuwait by five wickets 

Dubai, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):In another match, Nepal’s skipper Aakash Tirpathi and Hemant Dhami sparkled in a nine-wicket win over Hong Kong in Malek Ground-2. Malaysia outplayed Kuwait by five wickets at the Eden Gardens Oval through their skipper Sidharth Karthik Rajaratnam’s half century.

UAE restricted Singapore to a paltry 101 runs in 37.4 overs through Dhruv Parashar’s five wicket spell giving away just 23 runs. Chasing the score, Dhruv Parashar then backed opener Aryansh Sharma, who cracked 50 runs off 32 balls with 10 boundaries. Dhruv Parashar then remained unbeaten on 37 off 30 balls with six boundaries to win the match in just 13.2 overs.

Nepal’s win over Hong Kong by nine wickets was crafted by Hemant Dhami who bagged three wickets for 19 runs to restrict Hong Kong to 120 in 46.3 overs. Skipper Aakash Tirpathi then cracked an unbeaten 64 off 72 balls with five boundaries and four sixes to win the match by nine wickets in 22.1 overs.

Malaysia defeated Kuwait by five wickets after Kuwait were restricted to 141 in 33.2 overs despite skipper Jude Christopher Saldhana’s knock of 47 off 36 balls with eight boundaries. Malaysia won in 39.2 overs through their skipper Sidharth Karthik Rajaratnam’s 50 off 95 balls with four boundaries.

Singapore won the toss and elected to bat. UAE’s Ammar Badami ran out opener Arjun Rampal for 1 in the third over. Opener Kabir Zandani and Jeevan Santhanam took the score to 48 in 18.3 overs when Jeevan Santhanam got out caught by Harsh off Dhruv Parashar for 15. Two runs later, Kabir Zandani fell caught by Harsh off skipper Aayan Afzal Khan for 23. Wickets continued to fall regularly with next man Abhuday Chahajer falling six runs later, run out by substitute Ethan, for 7. Half the side was back in the pavilion at the score on 59 in 24.1 overs when Mahiyu Bhatia got stumped by Aryansh off Dhruv Parashar for a duck. Dhur Parashar picked his third wicket by having Rahil Khan caught by Aryan for 1.

Consistent batter Sidhanth Srikanth got caught by Harshit off Dhur Parashar for 16 when Singapore were nine short of the 100 run mark. At the score on 94, Aryaveer Chaudhary got out caught by Ammar Badami off Harit Harish Shetty for 3. Thiyanesh Venkatesan also got out caught by Dhruv Parashar off Aayan Afzal Khan for 5. When Pranav Nitin Maheshwari, who fought hard to score 17 runs, got caught by Aayan Afzal Khan off to give Dhruv Parashar for his fifth wicket, Singapore got bowled out for 101 in 37. 4 overs.

Chasing the moderate total, UAE lost opener Aryan Saxena at the score on 12 after he had scored nine runs and got out caught by Mahiyu off Adwitya Bhargava. Dhruv Parsahar, fresh from his five wicket spell, joined Aryansh Sharma for a strong partnership. Aryansh Sharma raced to his half century in 32 balls with 10 boundaries before becoming Adwitya Bhargava’s second victim by getting caught by Thiyanesh.

Dhruv Parashar took the team to the target by remaining unbeaten on 37 off 30 balls with six boundaries and a six, with Maroof Merchant unbeaten on 3 and win the match in 13.2 overs.

Dhruv Parashar who bagged the Player of the Match award through his fine allround show said: “I am very happy at having contributed to my team’s victory. Every match is important for us and we want to prove as a very strong team winning all our matches. I am happy I am contributing with the bat and ball and want to give my best in the coming matches too.

UAE skipper Aayan Khan said: “We want to win over all the teams with a huge margin. Our plan is to dominate all our opponents and we are happy that we are doing it and can thus go on to qualify for the World Cup.”

Nepal’s big win over Hong Kong

Hong Kong won the toss and elected to bat. In the third over, Hong lost their opener Aarez Dar caught behind by wicketkeeper Dipak Parsad for 2. Opener Ansh Rupesh Doshi too followed, run out by Dipesh for 8 in the seventh over. Next to go was one-drop Shiv Mathur caught by Arjun off Hemant Dhami for 8 at the score on 21. Hong Kong lost their fourth wicket at the score on 36 in 11.2 overs when Abdul Samad Khan got bowled by Subash Bhandari for 1.

Parth Bhagwat kept the scoreboard moving and with Mohammad Aliyaan Zahir and took the score to 83 by putting on a 47 runs partnership for the fifth wicket when Mohammad Aliyaan Zahir got out leg before to Subash Bhandari for 29. Soon Parth Bhagwat got out, caught by Dipak Prasad off Dipesh Kandel for 36. Hemant Dhami, who bagged 3 for 19, was adjudged Player of the Match, said: “I got a bit of movement early and utilised it well to pick those wickets. There was also a bit of moisture and so I kept bowling at the right areas. I am very happy to win the Player of the Match award.”

Nepal skipper Aakash Tirpathi, commenting on the big win, said: “I am so happy that the boys are showing their skills in all departments of the game be it bowling, batting or fielding. This is what we want and we will take one match at a time and keep winning.”

Malaysia Captain Sidharth Karthik’s half century downs Kuwait

Kuwait won the toss and elected to bat, but got off to a disastrous start. Opener Ehtan Sanjay Cherian fell leg before to Muhammad Akram to the third ball of the first over for a duck. One-drop Saud Mohamed Sadath got caught by Muhammad Azri Azhar off Muhammad Akram for 6 to the last ball of the first over for 6.

Skipper Jude Christopher Saldhana, undaunted by the fall of wickets, went for his strokes and with Yusuf Sadiq Basha took the score to 53 in 5.2 overs but Yusuf Sadiq Basha got caught by Muhammad Aalif for 4 off Muhammad Azri Azhar.

Gautham Mohandas Poolakkal joined his skipper Jude Christopher but Muhammad Azri Azhar ended Jude Christopher Saldhana’s fine knock of 47 by getting him caught by Muhammad Aalif. Henry Thomas and Gautham took the score past the 100 run mark but at the score on 104, Henry departed caught by Mohammad Hairil off Shivnarin Rahul Rajatnam for 18. Lahore Qalandars top points table after record win over Islamabad United 

Lahore, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):Lahore Qalandars recorded their biggest win in terms of runs and the joint-second biggest in the history of HBL Pakistan Super League to go on top of the points table as they steamrolled Islamabad United by 110 runs on Monday night at the Gaddafi Stadium. This was their second comprehensive win in as many nights as a combined batting effort – in which Abdullah Shafique stood out with 24-ball 45 – helped them to 200 for seven before Islamabad United faltered to 90 all out with as many as 37 balls to spare.

The opening pair of Mirza Tahir Baig (20 off 17) and Fakhar Zaman (36 off 23) put 58 runs before Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan provided his side a much-needed breakthrough by bowling the former on a delivery which stayed low. The next over, Fakhar walked back, also bowled off Tom Curran, which brought Abdullah and Sam Billings (33 off 23) together in the middle.

The two put a breezy stand of 71 in 39 balls that set the platform for Lahore Qalandars to post another imposing score, after they had posted 241 – their highest ever total – yesterday and cameos from Sikandar Raza (23 not out of 10), David Wiese (12 off six) and Rashid Khan (18 off 12) propelled Lahore Qalandars to 200 that marked the eighth instance of an HBL PSL side breaching the 200-run mark. No side has scored 200 or more this often.

Islamabad United were clueless against the quality Lahore Qalandars bowling attack. Colin Munro (18 off 14) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (23 off 17) put 41 runs and when the latter was dismissed off Zaman Khan in the fourth over, it opened the floodgates.

Islamabad United lost five wickets for only 14 runs in one of the most epic collapses of this HBL PSL as they slipped from 54 for one to 68 for six and then lost three wickets at the score of 90. David Wiese took three wickets for 17, Sikandar and Rashid took two wickets each.

All Ages Gather at GCU Yoga Event for Inner Peace

Lahore, February 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The GC University Lahore on Sunday morning celebrated a grand yoga event for inner peace on the Oval Ground of its campus, with the participation of around 2,000 yoga practitioners from all across Pakistan, making it one of the largest yoga events in the country.

The event, organized by the University’s recently-established Ravian Yoga Club in collaboration with the Pakistan Yoga Council, aimed to promote mental and physical wellness in society while reducing stress and anxiety. Participants of all age groups, from five-year-old to eighty-year-old, were dressed in comfortable yoga attire and led by professional yoga instructors through a series of yoga poses and exercises.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi highlighted the importance of promoting mental health, particularly in the current challenging times. “Yoga improves not only physical strength and balance but also reduces stress and anxiety, which are becoming more and more common in our society these days,” he said.

He emphasized the role of such yoga events in fostering a sense of community and belonging, adding that “by making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or physical condition, events like this can help to break down barriers and promote a sense of unity and inclusivity.”

Prof. Asghar Zaidi, who is also a global advisor of WHO Geneva on healthy ageing, also highlighted the importance of Yoga in old age. He mentioned in particular importance of social connections, alongside the exercise, to be greatly contributing to health while ageing.

Prof. Zaidi expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Yoga Council for their support, saying that “by working together, we can create a ripple effect of health and wellness that extends far beyond the individual participants at the event.”

Women’s rights activist Mrs. Kiran Zaidi appreciated this opportunity for young female students and faculty to practice yoga in a safe and supportive environment. “As a woman, it can be challenging to find safe spaces to collectively exercise and practice self-care,” she said. “This yoga event provided a supportive and welcoming environment where female students and faculty felt comfortable to practice yoga and connect with other like-minded individuals.”

Yoga professional Yogi Riaz Khokha said this huge turnout at the GCU Yoga event is a testament to the growing popularity of yoga in Pakistan. “One of the things I love about yoga is that it can be adapted to suit people of all ages and abilities,” he said.

Actor Rashid Mehmood suggested that other universities should also establish similar clubs to promote healthy activities. “By practicing together, we can learn from each other, share our experiences, and support each other on our individual paths. I hope that events like this will continue to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to practice yoga and promote health and well-being for all.” Earlier, on Saturday night, the University also arranged a Sufi music night for the yoga practitioners who came to GCU from other cities for this grand Yoga event.
