Dr. N.B. Jumani Holds Meeting with Focal Persons for Up-Keeping University Blocks 

Islamabad, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):A meeting with the focal persons for implementation of SOPs to have a mechanism of proper maintenance and up keeping of all the blocks, was chaired by Prof. Dr. N.B. Jumani, Acting President, and IIUI. The meeting was attended by Incharge administration and all the focal persons of the blocks. The meeting discussed strategy to chalk out a proper plan to keep the buildings maintained, solution of the issues of space allocation, optimum utilization of classrooms, management of utilities and other allied aspects in this regard.

Dr. N.B. Jumani while appreciating the homework of the committee hoped that the team of nominated focal persons shall be a great source of management and coordination for the best utilization of the resources under the supervision of the In-Charge administration. He assured that the university authorities shall provide full cooperation, supervision and support to implement the SOPs to up keep the administration and faculty blocks.

The chair desired that this committee shall meet after every 15 days to discuss the hindrances (if any) and future approach to solve the issues of long term. The Acting President said that immediate problem solving approach must be adopted and this opportunity of establishing a mechanism must be taken as a prospect to build up a well-coordinated team through a liaison with the coordinators of the blocks and respective Deans.

It was also agreed in the meeting that non-compliance to the SOP’s of new mechanism will be addressed by the focal persons for immediate action. The participant focal persons shared suggestion and vowed that they would work as bridges between administration and faculty to solve the issues with a positive approach. They also reiterated that optimum utilization of the university resources shall be pursued.

AKU strengthens ties with Kilifi County Government

Karachi, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):Collaborative efforts between Aga Khan University (AKU) and the County government of Kilifi are set to increase in 2023 following an extension of support by Kilifi County’s County Executive for Health and Sanitation Services, Hon Peter Mwarogo. Hon Mwarogo lauded AKU’s efforts in health research and capacity building and vowed to maintain the synergy between the two entities while speaking at the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, East Africa’s (CoEWCH EA) strategic meeting.

“I am utterly impressed by the work Aga Khan University and the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, East Africa, have been doing here in Kilifi. Your impact is undeniable. I would like to urge you to keep up the good work. I assure you that the Department of Health will continue to offer you our full support,” said Hon Mwarogo. Such collaboration is instrumental in improving the quality of care and enhancing access to affordable maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health services in remote groups and vulnerable populations in Kilifi County. It also strengthens AKU’s capacity in research, training, and learning.

Prof Marleen Temmerman, Director, CoEWCH EA said, “We are very grateful for the support we continue to receive from the County Government of Kilifi. Our partnership has played a huge role in our quest to improve the health and wellbeing of women, adolescents, and children in Kilifi. We look forward to building this relationship to increase the impact of our work to the people of Kilifi.”

CoEWCH EA has previously partnered with the County Government of Kilifi in several research projects including AQCESS (Access to Quality Care through Extending and Strengthening Health Systems) in collaboration with Aga Khan Foundation and funded by Global Affairs Canada; PRECISE (Pregnancy Care Integrating Translational Science, Everywhere), funded by the UKRI, Global Challenges Research fund, which investigated three important complications of pregnancy: hypertension, foetal growth restriction and stillbirth; and Mimba Yangu (My Pregnancy), funded by Philips Foundation, which sought to assess the role of technology in access to quality maternal services and enhancement of birth preparedness.

They continue to partner with them in ongoing projects such as iMAMA (Prospective data collection of obstetric ultrasound scans for development of AI solutions), funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to collect ultrasound imaging data to design and develop algorithms for detection of the basic obstetric ultrasound screening parameters; and WHEELER (Women in Health and their Economic, Equity and Livelihood statuses during Emergency Preparedness and Response), funded by International Development Research Centre, which will use a human-centered design to provide evidence on the health, economic and societal impacts of COVID-19 and its mitigation measures on the female healthcare workforce.

CoEWCH EA also partners with Kenya’s Ministry of Health and Nairobi and Mombasa County governments in various projects and aims to increase its government relations to confront the challenges in women, child, and adolescent health in East Africa.

Faculty members of Institute of Applied Psychology chaired the scientific sessions 

Lahore, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):Faculty members of Institute of Applied Psychology chaired the scientific sessions at the International Conference of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR 2023) organized by Lahore Garrison University. Parallel scientific sessions were held in the two-day ICSSR 2023. Director Institute of Applied Psychology, Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique, chaired the session on “Parenting and Attachment”. Dr. Fatima Kamran, Associate Professor IAP, chaired the session with the theme “Health Psychology”. Theme of the session chaired by Dr. Afifa Anjum, Assistant Professor IAP, was “Resilience, Hope and Life Satisfaction”.

Students of IAP presented their research and fully participated in the conference. Director Institute of Applied Psychology and faculty members of IAP lauded the management team of Lahore Garrison University for the successful organization of the International Conference of Social Sciences Research.

Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies organizes seminar on Nutrition Discipline 

Lahore, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) Department of Public Health’s Nutrition and Wellbeing society in collaboration with Sweetreat Pakistan (Pvt.) limited has organized a seminar on ‘Scope of Nutrition Discipline in Clinical Practices’ in its auditorium. Director ISCS Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, Director Integrated Health Solution International Akhuwat Health services, Diabetes center Lahore Dr Tahir Rasool and Dietitian at Al-Razi Hospital Zartash Umer, Dr Tauseef Iqbal, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Zartash Umer shared his viewpoints about the role of nutritionist in clinical practices while Dr Tahir Rasool spoke on topic regarding role of Nutrition and diet in prevention and management of Diabetes mellitus and career pathways for young nutritionists. Dr Nauman Ali and Dr Muhammad Navid Tahir also shared their point of views and encouraged the students.

Punjab University Institute of Applied Psychology organized an extension lecture 

Lahore, January 26, 2023 (PPI-OT):Institute of Applied Psychology organized an extension lecture entitled “Application of Theory of Planned Behaviour” for students of Institute of Applied Psychology. The resource person for the extension lecture was Dr. Ghulam Ishaq, MS Health Psychology graduate and Assistant Professor at University of Lahore. Dr. Ghulam Ishaq started off by sharing the key aspects of the theory of planned behaviour and furthered by sharing its application in identifying and modifying the health compromising behaviours.

The lecture was concluded with a healthy Question, Answer session by students of the MS Health Psychology Program. Director Institute of Applied Psychology, Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique thanked Dr. Ghulam Ishaq for taking his precious time out for the students of IAP.
