IoBM Holds 25th “Silver Jubilee” Convocation 

Karachi, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 25th “Silver Jubilee” Convocation of IoBM was held on Saturday, December 10, 2022. Executive Director, Ms. Sabina Mohsin, led from the front the Convocation Planning Committee (CPC) that completed all tasks of the milestone Convocation with dedication. This event could not have been possible without the guidance of President IoBM, Mr. Talib Karim and ED Admin, Ms. Sabina Mohsin. She has been the Convenor of the CPC since IoBM’s first Convocation that was held in 1998. This is a momentous moment for IoBM, indeed!

The Institute of Business Management (IoBM), Karachi, held its 25th Convocation at its Korangi Creek Campus on Saturday, December 10, 2022. 1,374 graduates from numerous departments were conferred educational degrees at the ceremony this year which marks the Silver Jubilee convocation of IoBM.

The Chief Guest, Governor Sindh, Kamran Tesori graced the event with his presence. He was accompanied by Guest of Honour, Muhammad Aurangzeb, President and CEO, Habib Bank Limited and Keynote Speaker Mr. Abid Vazir, Director and COO, Cherat Packaging Limited.

In his welcome address, IoBM President, Talib S. Karim congratulated the graduates on their success while aspiring them for the future ahead. He quoted the vision of late founding President of IoBM, Mr. Shahjahan S. Karim, who envisioned to establish a business school imparting quality education.

Mr. Talib extended a deep gratitude to members of the Board of Governors for their continuous support. He also acknowledged the Executive Director Ms. Sabina Mohsin’s hard work over the past 27 years in paving the way for the institute to host successful convocations year after year.

Closing his speech, he advised the graduates to be respectful towards their parents and follow the path of IoBM alumni who have done remarkably well in the corporate sector. The chief guest Mr. Kamran Tesori in his speech stated that the youth are the foundation that this great nation is built upon. He emphasized: “In the form of IoBM, Shahjahan S. Karim has given this country a great educational institution which has become a pride for Pakistan.

Today, as you graduate from this auspicious university, it is crucial to embrace and portray the positive side of Pakistan as you step into the corporate world. The nation today needs good human beings who are educated and intellectual. It is crucial that as future leaders, you don’t get divided by ethnicity but take charge as Quaid e Azam had envisioned.”

Addressing the gathering, Chancellor IoBM, Mr. Bashir Jan Muhammad expressed his sentiments stating: “I see before me the generation of the future. The founder of the nation stated that the job of building the nation lies upon your shoulders. It is time to control your destiny, dream higher and reach for impressive milestones in your career.”

While inspiring the graduates to become change makers of the future, Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb said that at every turn in life, individuals must ask themselves if what they are doing is helping people and making their lives easier. It is great to be successful in your chosen fields and have illustrious careers, but it is one of life’s greatest blessings to become a good human being. He encouraged the graduating batch to be humble, be patient, and strive for the stars while practicing ‘Confident Humility’.

The Keynote Speaker, Mr. Abid Vazir lauded the graduates, noting: “You are graduating from an institution that has prepared you well for the challenges that lie ahead. You are entering a new chapter in your life in an exciting world that is full of challenges and opportunities amplified by social media and the connection revolution.

The dynamic corporate world outside is open for passionate individuals, intent on carving their own paths and taking initiatives. So develop your leadership skills and don’t sit back on your laurels.” The students who were part of the graduating batch this year received their degrees in business administration as well as other relevant disciplines. 18 gold medals were also awarded to the highest achievers within their respective programs. 38 students were awarded merit certifications at the occasion as well.

Two Days Blood Donation Camp at the University of Haripur organized by SMT and Department of MLT 

Haripur, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Medical Lab Technology (MLT) in collaboration with Save the Mother Trust (SMT) organized two days blood donation camp on December 13th and 14th at The University of Haripur to help the Thalassemia patients.

The blood donation camp was supervised by Dr Ghufran Uddin, Assistant Professor MLT and Mr Shaoib (Chief Organizer SMT) to ensure a healthy and safe procedure of blood collection under standard protocol. The SMT staff and senior students enrolled at Department of MLT actively participated in the donation camp where students of various departments, faculty, and staff voluntarily donated blood.

A complete blood profile was performed for all volunteers along with body weight and medical history and those fulfilling donor’s criteria were processed for donation. A total of 113 blood bags were collected that will be screened for blood borne pathogens and a safe blood will be used for thalassemia patients at SMT.

The Honourable Vice Chancellor also visited the donation camp on second day and appreciated the efforts of SMT, Department of MLT and volunteer organizers who put efforts together for this noble service to community. The VC also advised to award certificate to volunteer donors and organizers and emphasized that such events should be organized frequently.

Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab at NUST

Islamabad, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):In a breakthrough development, the ground-breaking of Pakistan’s first 5G Innovation Lab was held at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). This historic achievement is the result of strategic partnership between NUST and Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital operator.

The ground-breaking witnessed an overwhelming number of senior dignitaries, including Secretary IT Mr Mohsin Mushtaq; SAPM on Youth Affairs, Ms Shiza Fatima; Rector NUST, Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari; and CEO Jazz Mr Aamir Ibrahim to name a few.

By leveraging its high bandwidth, low latency, and advanced security, the 5G Innovation Lab will help researchers to work on potential use cases for 5G in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Augmented/Virtual Reality and Cloud-edge Computing Possessing Applications in Education, Healthcare, Industry 4.0, Agriculture, Security, Disaster Management, Entertainment, etc.

Congratulating NUST and Jazz, Mr Mohsin Mushtaq, Secretary IT said, “This lab will play a pivotal role in helping us build an ecosystem to explore 5G-enabled use cases in Agritech, EdTech etc., while serving as a conduit for the interplay of technologies like Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Internet of Things, and Cybersecurity.” Kaan Terzioğlu, VEON Group CEO said, “While our priority is to provide 4G for all, we must also look at the future of communications where 5G will have an important role to play.

NUST Pro-Rector RIC Dr Rizwan Riaz said, “Today we have taken an important step to accelerate research and innovation.”

He said the 5G Innovation Lab would strengthen and foster a collaborative, and development-focused ecosystem with cutting-edge technology by bringing together visionary startups, industry leaders, technical experts, and investors for shared goals of advancement and growth.

The election for the seats of teachers in Sindh University Senate will be held on December 30

Jamshoro, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):Elections for Sindh University Senate seats for teachers will be held on December 30, for which nominations have been invited. However, a notification has also been issued by Registrar Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto. According to the notification, after the scrutiny of the nomination papers submitted on December 12, the preliminary voter list will be released tomorrow, December 16, on which claims and objections can be filed.

The final list of voters will be released on December 19. Nomination papers will be submitted on December 21 by one o’clock in the afternoon. According to the notification, the nomination papers will be scrutinized on the same day i.e. December 21 after one o’clock, while the list of nominated candidates will be released on December 23.

Similarly, the candidates will be able to withdraw the nomination form on December 26. The notification of the election and the names of the final candidates will be announced on December 28, while the election will be held on the seats of Sindh University Senate teachers on December 30. The final result of the successful candidates will be declared on the same day. However, the election results will be officially notified on January 2, 2023.

Office of Research hosts TDF Awareness Seminar by HEC 

Lahore, December 15, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Office of Research (OR) at LUMS organised a Technology Development Fund (TDF) Awareness Seminar on December 8, 2022. The session was conducted in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC) to discuss the fourth call for proposals and provide a suitable platform for researchers who are seeking funds to commercialise their efforts.

The TDF initiative was approved by the Government of Pakistan to provide academic researchers with a platform and opportunity to interact with the industry. This project was approved in 2015 and has funded 200 projects so far, out of which over 160 have been licensed for commercialisation and mass scaling. TDF has played an integral role for the welfare of research community at LUMS. LUMS has successfully secured 11 TDF projects with a funding of PKR 140 million in total over the years.

Dr. Saad Azmat, Director, OR, welcomed the participants, who hailed from 16 universities across Lahore, and thanked HEC for the initiative. The event the TDF success journey of three LUMS faculty members including Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Mr. Nauman Ahmad Zaffar and Dr. Muhammad Sabien Anwar. They shared their experience with TDF, explained the role of their industrial partner and how they foresee TDF in future.

Dr. Naveed Tariq, CEO First Biotech LLC, and Microbial Biotechnologies Pvt. Limited, shared his perspective of TDF proposals as an independent reviewer with relevant examples that resonated with the audience. Dr. Shahid Raza, Executive Committee Member, LCCI, and Mr. Rumman Wasae, Country Head Pakistan, Nihon Nohyaku, also praised the role of TDF in connecting researchers with the industry and how it benefits the process of commercialisation.

Dr. Ghulam Sarwar, Programme Coordinator, HEC, shared tips on writing successful TDF proposals. He explained their selection criteria, how to draft an effective business plan that can result in a successful proposal for funding, as well as the process of technology transfer. The session concluded with a question-and-answer session and a vote of thanks by Dr. Jadoon. Everyone was encouraged to submit research proposals till December 20, 2022, in the fourth call for proposals by TDF.
