Seminar on “Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in Life Sciences” at UVAS 

Lahore, December 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Later, the Department of Wildlife and Ecology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised a seminar on “Applications of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) in Life Sciences” at UVAS Veterinary Academy.

Assistant Professor from Punjab University Dr Asim Daud Rana and Dr Sawaid Abbas from Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) Hong Kong Polytechnic University were the guest speakers. They delivered their lectures to participant on the topics of basics of RS and GIS, recording and reporting disease information, disease mapping, epidemic management, fodder quality monitoring and Monitoring Microclimate etc.

Syed Ghulam Muhayud Din Hashmi, GIS and Remote Sensing Lab at Department of Wildlife and Ecology, UVAS, Ravi Campus was also there and assisted in organizing the seminar. Dr Rehan-ul-Haq and number of participants from different institutions were present in the seminar.

UVAS holds seminar on ‘Discussing Contemporary Issues related to Youth’

Lahore, December 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Senior Tutor Office of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged a seminar on ‘Discussing Contemporary Issues related to Youth’ in connection with the national anti-corruption campaign here at City Campus Lahore.

In which a Senior Trainers/Motivational speaker of Youth Club Mr Muhammad Ali delivered a detailed lecture to UVAS students on the topic of character building. He talked about the various aspects related to ethics of life and high moral values. Principal Officer Students Affairs Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Prof Dr Mian Abdul Hafeez and a large number of students from Qirat and Naat Society and Character Building Society and also from different departments of UVAS attended.

Applicants must fill the Drama entry form and send it with 2 posters of the Drama to Event Chairperson at theater@fjwu.edu.pk

Competition will be conducted on 25th December, 2021 from 11:30am to 4:00pm at New Auditorium, Fatima Jinnah Women University. All the Participating teams are requested to report organizing committee maximum by 10:00am on said date.

Teams may present a drama on any topic of their choice with a clear theme and message on some social issue.

Dramas pertaining to social issues including taboos will be encouraged but they have to be presented in a proper manner without becoming obscene and offensive.

Teams are not allowed to portray any content in their performances which is unethical and sacrilegious.

Loose or non-parliamentary language will not be permitted.

No drama should be less than its minimum time limit (15 min).

No drama should exceed its maximum time limit (20 min).

Marks will be strictly deducted in case of violation of time limits.

For stage setting, maximum 10 minutes will be provided prior to performance. If this limit is exceeded, additional time will be counted in the performance.

In case of any violation of rules, performance will be disqualified immediately.

Participating teams needs to send their script maximum by 31st March, 2020 along with Posters to display outside Auditorium.

FJWU will only provide the following items:

2 tables and 4 chairs, Spotlight, Sound System, Stage mics. (Every team must bring its own laptop to play sounds of the play however a laptop can be arranged if hosts are intimated two days before the event).

Anything not mentioned in the list will have to be arranged by the teams themselves. Participants will themselves set the stage prior to their performance and subsequently remove their belongings from the stage.

Any activity that may damage or cause harm to facilities provided by FJWU (stage, mics, etc.), will result in immediate disqualification of the team. Note: The stage is carpeted and the back wall can be utilized for any Poster or panaflex.

FJWU Dramatics jury and management holds the right to reject any drama during the script review process.

Grading would be done by experienced panel of judges.

The decision of the judges is final and cannot be challenged.

Concluding of Fourth Annual Workshop on ‘The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research’, Department of Economics 

Rawalpindi, December 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):The concluding ceremony of Fourth Annual Workshop on ‘The Philosophy and Techniques for Quantitative Research’ organized by Department of Economics, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi in collaboration with Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC), Karachi held virtually on Dec 1, 2021. This was a 3-day workshop comprising of training sessions on software SPSS, STATA and R. The resource persons were Mr. Hamad Manzoor, Ms. Saira Tufail and Dr. Farrukh Mahmood from FJWU and IT University, Lahore, respectively. Workshop was attended by 150 participants from FJWU, AERC, Akhuawat College for Women, Chakwal and other institutions.

Dr. Bushra Yasmin, Workshop Coordinator, gave the concluding remarks. She showed her indebtedness to Prof. Dr. Selim Raihan and Prof. Dr. Samina Khalil, for being part of the workshop as valuable guest speakers. Dr. Yasmin also provided an overview of the contents covered during various sessions of the workshop.

The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Prof. Dr. Samina Khalil, Director, Applied Economics Research Centre, University of Karachi. Dr. Khalil has vast experience of teaching and research in Economics. She has secured a number of scholarships and fellowships at both national and international level. In her address, Dr. Khalil highlighted the importance of understanding the philosophy of research that provides the foundation of economic model building and analysis. She further elaborated that every statistical software has its own specialized use and the researcher has to opt amongst them in accordance with their research objectives.

Participants of the workshop also shared their experience of the event. They appreciated both the institutions for organizing this useful and informative workshop. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Faiza Azhar Khan, Moderator of the Workshop. The session ended with a group photo with the honourable guest.

Three IoBM students were selected for the Global UGRAD Pakistan program

Karachi, December 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Three IoBM students were selected for the Fall 2021 cohort as Cultural Ambassadors of Pakistan. They were seventh semester students: Muskan (BBA Honors), Komal Fatima (BS Accounting and Finance), and Fiza Abdul Hameed (BBA Honors). Global UGRAD Pakistan program is a one-semester, fully-funded non-degree academic program. It enables emerging young leaders from diverse communities across Pakistan to spend one semester in the United States. Out of 18,000 candidates, 140 outstanding students were selected for the Fall 2021 cohort as cultural ambassadors of Pakistan.

This program mainly aims to build good relations between American and Pakistani people. As cultural ambassadors of Pakistan in the US, IoBM’s students were able to represent the real image of Pakistan and break the stereotypes that American people have about Pakistani people. They also got a chance to travel and explore different states of the US and work with the American people on various community projects. This helped them strengthen their leadership and professional skills.
