Renowned Canadian-based Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Tashfeen Abbasi visited the IUB 

Bahawalpur, November 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Renowned Canadian-based Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Tashfeen Abbasi visited the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. Dr. Tashfeen Abbasi is currently serving as Chief Veterinary Surgeon at Pine Hills Veterinary Hospital Canada Dr. Khalid Mansoor, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur received him and visited various departments, classes and laboratories of the faculty. I provided information on higher education and job opportunities in the veterinary sector.

A farmers convention organized at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur

Bahawalpur, November 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):A farmers convention was organized at Islamia University Bahawalpur in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture and Fatima Group for timely and better cultivation of wheat in Punjab. Addressing the convention, Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Hussain Jahanian Gardezi said that we have been organizing city-to-city farmers’ conventions all over the Punjab. We want to increase the average agriculture productivity of our province. Last year we tried and brought the average yield to 31 and a half. This year we are trying to increase the average production by two to three monds.

To achieve this goal, farmers will have to follow the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture. The Department of Agriculture stands by the side of the farmers. Our Punjab farmer is very hardworking and is not afraid of the cold of winter and the heat of June and July. To improve the average yield in Punjab, the government decided to take Agriculture Department officials with visit to every district of the province. He said that Bahawalpur division is ahead in many crops. And INSHA’ALLAH, wheat production in Bahawalpur division will be higher this year as compared to other divisions.

On this occasion, Director General Agriculture Extension Punjab Dr. Anjum Ali Butter said that the purpose of our gathering here is to discuss the wheat crop. Last year, Punjab produced 21 million tons of wheat. Proper use of fertilizers is essential for good wheat production. Currently, wheat is a very important subject for cultivation. We should not delay the cultivation of wheat at all. He said that last year also the farmers got good rate of wheat. This year we will try to improve this rate. We don’t want to keep asking the world for wheat. We have to increase wheat production per acre.

Addressing the function, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Islamia University Bahawalpur Prof. Dr. Iqbal Bandesha said that we are working on varieties of cotton that would be helpful for wheat crop in the region. We have developed varieties of cotton that are ready in less time so that the next wheat crop can be planted in time. At the end of the ceremony, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar said that our farmer faces difficulties in every situation but does not give up hard work. The farmer friendly policies of the government of the day are commendable.

Vice Chancellor the Islamia University Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob is playing utmost role in the field of agricultural development. Dr. Iqbal Bandisha and his team will continue to play their full role in guiding the farmers of the region and in agricultural development. The function was attended by Punjab Agriculture Department officials, agronomists, leaders of farmers’ organizations and a large number of farmers. At the end of the ceremony, farmer cards were distributed by the Punjab government while shields were also distributed among the farmers who got better yields.

Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur visited Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 20 

Bahawalpur, November 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob visited Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020 during his visit to UAE. Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel was also present on the occasion. The Vice Chancellor said that it was a great pleasure to visit the Dubai Expo, the beautiful way in which the history, society and culture of the beloved homeland has been highlighted is commendable. Visiting the Pakistani Pavilion raises the head of every Pakistani with pride and gives a glimpse of a bright and radiant future.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor called on Mamon Baig, Head of Fresh Leaf UAE. Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel, Director Intercropping Research Institute Dr. Muhammad Ali Raza and Executive Secretary Muhammad Khalid Sheikh were also present on the occasion. In this regard, facilities are being provided for training of farmers and access to global markets. The proposal to export Pakistani agricultural products to the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries is welcome.

Mamon Baig said that he would provide all possible support and assistance for the export of the best quality agricultural products from Pakistan, especially from South Punjab, through the Islamia University of Bahawalpur. He said that full support would be provided to the local farmers for the export of such agricultural commodities which would enable them to cultivate, packaging, marketing and export them according to international requirements. The Islamia University of Bahawalpur through its agricultural experts and marketing experts can play an important role in liaison and technical support between farmers and exporters.

COVID-19 Free University campaign at IUB 

Bahawalpur, November 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Faculty and students of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur have reiterated their commitment to make the university a covid-19 free university. A ceremony was held in the main auditorium for this purpose. Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Irfan Ali Kathia, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Chief Executive Officer District Health Authority Muhammad Iqbal Makwal and Focal Person Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha, teachers and students were present on the occasion. Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob Vice Chancellor said that vaccination of all teachers and students will be completed by the end of this month.

We made the Islamia University of Bahawalpur the first hepatitis free university in the world and now we will also get rid of the covid-19 epidemic. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Irfan Ali Kathia is cooperating with the university beyond his responsibilities. The cooperation of the District Health Authority is also noteworthy. We all have a responsibility to complete our vaccinations and today’s message should reach 46,000 families through students. We stand with you until the last university student is vaccinated. More than 6000 vaccines will be provided to the university in a day.

He said that NADRA counter for covid-19 Certificate will be set up in the university and when Islamia University Bahawalpur becomes covid-19 Free University, we will hold a big celebration with students. Chief Executive Officer District Health Muhammad Iqbal Makwal said that Islamia University Bahawalpur would become the first covid-19 Free University in the country. Focal Person Dr. Asif Naveed Ranjha said that at present 70% students of Islamia University Bahawalpur and more than 90% teachers and staff have been vaccinated.

Data is being compiled in this regard and data of 20,000 people has been collected. According to the vision of the Vice Chancellor and with the cooperation of the district administration, 100% target of vaccination will be achieved in the next few weeks. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Usman Cheema said that all types of covid-19 vaccines are available at the University Health Center in collaboration with the District Health Administration.

Prize distribution ceremony was held at Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Islamabad. Dr. Safia Bibi received shield and appreciation certificate from Speaker National Assembly Mr. Asad Qaiser, Peer Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony and Ali Muhammad Khan, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.

MoU signed between Islamia University of Bahawalpur Pakistan and Pakistan Postal Services

Bahawalpur, November 05, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prof. Dr. Athar Mahboob, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, said that innovation and improvement in the services of Pakistan Postal Services is most welcome. The Vice Chancellor expressed these views on the occasion of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and Pakistan Postal Services. He said that Pakistan Postal Services has modernized its services in a very short span of time.

This has made the delivery of mail across the country faster and more efficient. In this regard, the launch of digital services and affiliation with Amazon is good news. He said that Islamia University Bahawalpur would now be able to avail the services of postal department.
