IoBM alumnus, Taha Saleem, appointed as Deputy Commissioner, Central Karachi

Karachi, July 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):IoBM alumnus, Taha Saleem, has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner, Central Karachi. In his previous assignment, he was serving as DG Parks and Horticulture for Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. As DG Parks, he initiated multiple plantation activities and revived horticulture events. He has also served Deputy Commissioner, Zhob in Balochistan. Taha Saleem graduated from IoBM with a BS in Economics and Finance (2010) and MBA in Finance and Risk Management (2011). Taha continues to go beyond with his determination and experience.

Career Counselling and Postgraduate Higher Studies Prospects – CPD Webinar – Electrical Engineering

28, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Department of Electrical Engineering, ORIC Office DSU and International Education Resource Centre DSU organized a CPD Webinar under the on July 26, 2021. The guest speaker for the session was Dr. Ayaz Khan – Clinical MR Scientist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Memphis, Tennessee, United States. It was a motivational session for students based on Career Counselling and Higher Education Opportunities. Moreover, the speaker also shared his experiences and some of his incredible researches in the area of neuroimaging and highlighted the significance of Electrical Engineering in the current era and in the future.

Partnership with Rotary E-Club of Lahore International for the cultivation of “Miyawaki Forests” at UET New Campus, under Green Pakistan Initiative 

Lahore, July 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):To achieve the goal of a green Pakistan, a delegation from the internationally renowned Rotary E-Club, Lahore visited the UET New Campus and met with Campus Coordinator Prof. Dr. Tanveer Iqbal to make the “Miyawaki Forests” project successful. During the meeting, the President Rotary E-Club of Lahore International, Engr. Bilal Asghar and Engr. Danish Jaffery, who were part of the delegation, highlighted that the “Japanese Miyawaki” method is a new technique, under which there are four plants grown in one meter radius near to each other, that makes trees growth 10 times faster than normal planting.

He said that Rotary E-Club had already donated more than 300 plants in April 2021 and would continue to donate more plants in collaboration with the university to expand the “Miyawaki Forest”. Prof. Dr. Tanveer Iqbal, Coordinator, UET New Campus, thanked the delegation of Rotary E-Club for contributing for the dream of a green Pakistan and appreciated their commitment.

He also hoped that with the joint cooperation of the two institutions, further steps will be taken to improve the environment in Pakistan by expanding the scope of “Miyawaki Forests” project. At UET-New Campus, Jaman, Moringa, Bakcain, Guava and some other native species are planted. Services of university’s Horticulturist Mr. Ali Raza have been appreciated and responsibility of monitoring and proper maintenance of “Miyawaki Forest” project at UET-New Campus assigned to him.

Hasaranga attains career-best second place in MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings 

Dubai, July 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has moved up one slot to a career-best second place in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after grabbing two wickets in the first match of their series against India being played in Colombo.

India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Player of the Match in that match for his haul of four for 22, has moved up four slots to 16th in the latest weekly update to the men’s rankings, which also includes performances in the three-match T20I series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and the last two matches of the Ireland versus South Africa T20I series.

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal (up 10 places to 21st), Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani (up 37 places to 31st), and Sri Lanka fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera (up five places to 37th) are among the others to move up the rankings for bowlers.

India captain Shikhar Dhawan has gained five slots after contributing a 36-ball 46 in the 38-run victory and is now joint-29th along with South Africa opener Reeza Hendricks, who moved up three places scoring 69 runs in the last match of the series, won 3-0 by them.

Others to advance in the batsmen’s list include South Africa’s David Miller (up nine places to 33rd), India’s Suryakumar Yadav (up 25 places to 42nd) and Zimbabwe’s Wesley Madhevere (up 59 places to 70th).

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, that includes the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series between West Indies-Australia series and the final match of the Sri Lanka-India series, Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is up five places to second after finishing with five wickets in the series while Mitchell Starc is up 10 places to eighth with a Player of the Series performance that saw him finish with 11 scalps including a five-wicket haul in the first match.

In the batting list, Australia’s Alex Carey is up three places to 22nd and Sri Lanka’s Avishka Fernando has climbed 10 slots to 52nd. Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar is up 18 places to 65th among bowlers after being named Player of the Match for grabbing two wickets and scoring an unbeaten 19 in the final match of the series.
